September 14, 200618 yr It's a one (I know one looks like it is saying IT) Becuase I have two laying hens I added the first letter of their name just to be double sure if I had to move any around that I knew who's egg was who's. I also used different coloured pens. The 'T' is for Tootie and the 'R' for Ringo. OMG!!!!!!!!!!! Did anyone know you can see the baby's heart beating when candling the eggs at this stage??? I almost droped the egg in shock! It was like a pin head sized dot blinking on and off!! :ausb: That makes sense. I just couldn't figure out the system. I don't remember everybody's budgies names. (HEH I barely remember most peoples names ) But now you've explained it's a good system. It would be cool to see that. The only bird eggs I've candled are finch eggs. I tend not to candle them very often as they cool down really quickly and I don't want to stress the mother and father birds off the nest too long. The only time I interfere with any nesting behaviour is if the male starts building another layer on the nest. Zebra finches are notorious for making a layered nest. (nest, eggs, new nest on top, eggs, etc.) I'll also pick up babies that have fallen out or get tossed and place them back in the nest if I know they're too young to be out yet. Oh, is there a spot here that outlines when you can candle an egg? Just curious.
September 14, 200618 yr WOW what a post - thanks for asking about the T and R I was wondering too and NO I have never had the opportunity to see the heatbeat now that is NEAT. Good luck to both you and Daz!! Pics soon...

September 14, 200618 yr Author Kirb I answered on your thread I hope ariel continues to sit for you. Daz- omg i remember we counted and you kinda did a double take and counted again but only to eight with the ones I had !!! I hope you find it. What will you do if you thing she is eating them? Ringo has taken to her new eggs wonderfully Lisa - I know there is a thread somethere pinned in the breeding area with a link to a site about candling, but that was just to give pictures of what to look for it was actually for an other bird. We candle on day 5 when you can really see line running across the egg.

September 16, 200618 yr Author I have my fingers crossed for you Daz. Ringo laid an egg again so I removed her old egg and the other egg from you Daz now has lines in it No new one for Tootie and her number 5 egg has lines as well. so 8 possible babies now.
September 16, 200618 yr Thats great Nerwen. Breeding Pair 8 has now it's 3rd baby. They seem to be one day out of sequence. Thats fine. Jazz laid another egg today so we are back up to 8 eggs.
September 16, 200618 yr Hahaha guys.... Whoa Nerwen!!! So 7 are Tooties, and the 8th is Daz's? GUESS WHAT!!!! BELLE LAID 8TH RIGHT NOW!!!!!! I saw it happening! I thought she was done at 7... then i was feeding them all (the 3 cages) and i heard Belles nest box rattling... so i open up and her vent was right infront of the screen...then POP an egg! She didnt even care i was there and just looked at me, then moved the egg under her chest So, i to have 8 eggs, all fertile so far (ive candled 6, and all fertile)... September 16, 200618 yr Author One more egg from Tootie needs checking yet so I could have 9 babies all together unless Ringo get her act together and falls for Kree in the end here.

September 16, 200618 yr Author WooHoo So are you adding your other egg with the spangles?? or are you going to wait for the second one. I hope you get a DF spangle from that pair.
September 16, 200618 yr I am going to wait to see how many she lays or if another pair starts to breed. I am very tempted to put the eggs with the spangles but will wait.
September 18, 200618 yr Author sound like a better plan :budgiedance: I found an egg at the bottom of the cage this morning in tooties and Marines cage and paniced that she threw one out! but there was no writing on it, so she laid a late egg last night, I hope she is alright and isn't going to lay another. She is still stilling happily on the eggs. Since I had to bug her to check her after finding that I checked all the egg and the last one has the start of red lines too
September 18, 200618 yr Is the egg okay Nerwen, as in no cracks? it could have stuck to her feathers as she was leaving the nest? Hope it's okay. Up date the forth chick has hatched this morning from the opaline and spangle.
September 18, 200618 yr my hen has 7 eggs now and looks like there is 1 more i hope she's finished then she only had 6 last time and she is on her own
September 18, 200618 yr Author No it was cracked from the bars on the bottom of the cage, it wasn't that close to the nest I think she might have laid it while on the branch. But she is happy and moving easily. Poor girl,do you have any others set up? Ringo laid another egg too today sometime which is on time for her again. All warm from her sitting. Friday I hope the first hatches form Tootie.
September 18, 200618 yr I cant wait to see your newest batch of babies hatching out Jenni :budgiedance:
September 18, 200618 yr Poor girl,do you have any others set up? No only the ones you saw last week. The spangle laid another egg today. I found it when I got home. No other action for the others. The special eggs should be hacthing from tomorrow on wards. Lisa and Bob's chick will be easy to identify...red eyes. The others might be a mistery until they feather up. Karen I look forward too. At least one should be a yellowface ..or will it?? Edited September 18, 200618 yr by daz
