I fixed my eggs to be correct, I will not add Ringo's egg to the race :)

I'm hoping to get home and find another egg in tooties this afternoon :D

If i can get some laying I'll be in too. :)

Better speed them up daz :D

Egg 2 is here for both of them, once again around 4 both where staying in the nests as if laying (they might have just been sitting but normally they stick a head out if I make a noise around them) so I left them be and checked again at 5 :) I have piccies that i'm uploading now and you will see that from the time I marked tooties egg and gotten the camera (all of three steps) she didn't want me messing in her box again and I could only just get her out of the way. :) such a good mummy.

Well my count at the moment

Pair 1 0 eggs

Pair 2 4 chicks out of the nest.

Pair 3 0 eggs

Pair 4 3 chicks in the nest 4 eggs of her own and 1 others.

Pair 5 3 chicks fledge 1 chick left to fledge

Pair 6 0 eggs

Pair 7 0 eggs

Pair 8 8 eggs first due on Monday 11th

So I have 11 chicks and 13 eggs :)

Well I will only use pairs 1, 3, 6 & 7. They were set up on Saturday and though the hens have been checking out the nests it is a bit early for eggs. ;)

(Laughing out loud) Daz...

Yay Nerwen! Belle has had her 3rd ;) Sooo cute seeing all three eggs, Kirby singing outsie of the box, and Belle being a good mum on the eggs  I may candle soon... But i dont know if i want to jinx anything...

Kirby

okay I have to ask. I realize you wrote on the eggs to keep track of them. But what exactly does IR and IT (1R? 1T?) stand for?

Edited by Nerwen

It's a one (I know one looks like it is saying IT)

Becuase I have two laying hens I added the first letter of their name just to be double sure if I had to move any around that I knew who's egg was who's. I also used different coloured pens.

The 'T' is for Tootie and the 'R' for Ringo.

I have three eggs now :budgiedance: and the first of Tootie's is fertile, so it seems I will be able to use the name I have lined up :budgiedance: I was a bit worried since on friday afternoon (day 5) I couldn't seen anything, but checked this morning and there where strong lines starting to snake out.

Ringo's of cuase is completly clear as I thought it would be, but she is still on time laying her third as well.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! Did anyone know you can see the baby's heart beating when candling the eggs at this stage??? I almost droped the egg in shock! It was like a pin head sized dot blinking on and off!! :)

Edited by Nerwen

I will just use 1 2 3 and so on. If I am going to foster the egg I will also put the breeding cage no where it came from so 3 becomes 5.3 Meaning it was egg 3 from breeding cage 5.

Whipeeee Nerwen!!!! :):wub::D

YES YES YES ! ! ! I ALSO SAW THE BABY MOVING ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was like the size of a pencil eraser, but throbbing! I thought it was me shaking the egg (like if my hand was shaking a bit enought to move the baby) but it wasnt! Aww it was soo cute! Nerwen... our babies will be born within a day of eachother!!!! WHIPPEE!!!! :) Im so thrilled you have no idea! And i too have names picked out  (Laughing out loud)

Kirby :)

Way to go Kirby... Start the count down and Don't handle the eggs to much. The bateria on your fingers can get into the baby chick as the egg shell is pourous.

:) You dont think weve started the countdown? (Laughing out loud)

Yes i dont want to touch them anymore... Except initial candling, and egg numbering...

Well Tootie now has a foster egg thanks to Daz :D And her second egg is fertile as well.

As we spoke about Daz I removed the first two if Ringos since both are clear and now she is having 1/2 hour no nest time :) She isn't that happy about it either. Both egg where nice and warm so she is a good sitter and later if she is still interested in breeding I might move the foster egg to her.

I havn't yet check to see what Tootie is doing with her now four eggs but she hasn't come out of the box again. I'll leave her so she doesn't get mad with me nosing and throw them all out or something, I'll check again around 5 pm and see if her due egg is there as well.

i have 4 eggs now as well

last time she bred there were 2 blobs in the one egg does that happen very often?

  • Author

no not often and normaly they die in the egg.

Before I forget this is tooties picture of three:

I only know this becuase I had to pick them up to find the new egg. She has teken in the spare one wonderfully.

Whoa!!! I was going to say 'Tootie is beating Belle if she has 5 already!" (Laughing out loud)

Awww i love the pics! Especially with Tootie looking up... okay.. so Daz gave you an egg? Or what happened with that? I got confused (Laughing out loud). Belle will have 5th egg today, and so far 3 of the current 4 are fertile (4th is to young to candle yet)... Nerwen i still cant get over the fact how similar our scenarios are (same coloured babies will come, and same dates almost). Good luck fellow 'racer'.. And Cosmo, my hen has 4 now to! But 5th very soon :rip:

:(Laughing out loud): I know, it was reading your post that got me to set up the cages a bit earilier than planned (around two weeks)

Daz stopped on of his pairs so she didn't start round three ( or was it two??) anyway to stop the next clutch and she laid another egg after the lost of the box and thought instead of chucking it would see if I wanted to take it, see if it would hatch. If it does it will be the same colours as Tooties own chicks, either blue or yellowface blue.

HAHAHA :ausb:

How far away do you guys live? Daz... send me some eggs please!!! (Laughing out loud). So Nerwen she has 3 that are hers, and 1 of Daz's... no wait 4 of her own, the foster .. then her 5th (6th overall) tomrrow right? This journey makes my head hurt as its so close to my dates but still different.. (Laughing out loud)

Kirby :rip:

The hen was about to go for her 4th clutch.

Clutch 1 6 eggs threw them all out.

Clutch 2 6 eggs two hatched

Clutch 3 7 eggs she raised 4 chicks - that was enough. I took the nest box away but she laid two more eggs. the first I didn't see and broke it while cleaning the cage. The second I took out and gain to Nerwen.

All the best with it.

:hap: All five are still safe.

yes 5th (her 5th) egg tommorrow I hope she stops around that many. 6 is a good number :hap:

.........nerwen guess what?????

She laid another egg.... :hap:

Let me know if you want it. :hap:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best of Luck Nerwen! :)

Me to Nerwen! But I only want Belle to have 5 babies... Since i still have Ariel setup (her eggs are about 30-35 days old now) and i know theyve been infertile this whole time, i wanted to use her as a foster mom as the eggs are still relativly close together. So, do you think i should give Ariel some of Belles eggs to give Belle less of a 'WA BAMB" feeling to have 5+ babies in her 1st brood... then this way Ariel have get the feeling what its like to be a mom as she wants to me so much :ausb: ?

Kirby :)

If she is still sitting or interested in the box when Belle's hatch you can move the young over, as Daz said moving eggs in the middle of the time can kill the babies in the egg.

Daz I don't want to over load them. :ausb: Ringo laid another egg as well again.
