October 28, 200618 yr Author aww Daz they look great. The two opaline girls have such long wings!. Your spangle seems to have dark markings which would rule out DF. The pieds look fantastic. Darel looks just like her ma. If she is a she I will shorten her name to Elle. Can you tell us what makes you think brain tumour? Lovey - Yes and a white face not yellowface which would give the mix of colours like an Opal. If you can think of a cute name I'll change it but he is on the sale list.

Yes they have a long body, very tall and thin. (Coffee Pot, Hath ) The young spangle is certainly marking up this morning But no colouring yet. S/He is now 23 days so I should be geting colour soon. I don't know the back ground of the parents both are Spangle Grey Greens. You can't get an Albino Spangle that is maked. He is the one that I found flapping on the floor in what I thought was a death flap. But he came good. He does it ocational. When he does it he can't stand on his perch he keep falling off. This has been going on for a few months now. Lately his right foot looks like he can't use it. Can't grip the perch. () Photos taken this morning. He is holding on the perch fine. The hen has now laid 5 eggs of her 2nd clutch. 1 is missing but the others look to be fertile. This will be her last clutch as just raising 6 chicks is a big ask for both of them. If she lays more eggs i'll foster them. Two of his chicks in the nursary, Both Hens left Opaline lt green, right Opaline Spangle. Nerwen There is a classs for Opaline spangles. In fect this time next week hopefully both of these birds will be on the show bench as Nestfeathers. Edited October 29, 200618 yr by daz
October 30, 200618 yr Author Nice I have my fingers crossed for you to win Daz The poor man :ausb: Czar as at last learnt how to get to the higher branches Cupid, Storm and Tingle have been out all day again. Cupid is 39 days now almost ready to be moved, I havn't seen her beg or be given food from dad for a while now. Edited October 30, 200618 yr by Nerwen
October 30, 200618 yr Thanks Nerwen they have now been registered and will be on the bench Sunday Morning. Their training starts to night. I'd leave him till he is 42 days. But sounds like he is doing well. :ausb:
October 30, 200618 yr He is the one that I found flapping on the floor in what I thought was a death flap. But he came good. He does it ocational. When he does it he can't stand on his perch he keep falling off. This has been going on for a few months now. Lately his right foot looks like he can't use it. are you sure he doesn't have some sort of avian epilepsy?
October 30, 200618 yr I have been discussing that with another member, It could be. He hasn't been bad lately so I'll see how he goes.
October 30, 200618 yr Minka, sky blue dominant pied, possable male: How come he has some spangle markings and some normal and a spangle tail? He's really cute though!
October 30, 200618 yr I see what you mean Bea... They all look so cute. Their training starts to night. What sort of training do they go through?
October 31, 200618 yr Author Bea the tail is from the pied gene and his wings are paleish but not spangle, or not as spangle looking as the pictures shows. Neither of the parents where spangle. Hurdy I can only guess but it could be perching in the show cage training.
October 31, 200618 yr QUOTETheir training starts to night. What sort of training do they go through? i start mine of as soon as they leave the nest getting used to the show cage six weeks before the shows i start to bring them into show condition and extrs training in the show cage this ensures they perch and dont hide on the floor and also calms them down so if lots of people are around they dont scare and panic in the show cage
October 31, 200618 yr Hath's right dusk they go into the show cage for the night. In the morning they go back into the Nursary. This way they feed and get used to the Cage. On the show bench they will hopeful show. That sounds strange to some, but a show bird must show. :hap: By thursday they will be allowed to go into the Show Cage for a bit in the middle of the day and will start to be prepared for the show. As they are only nest feathers. Preparation is not as crucial.
October 31, 200618 yr So what, is it just to make sure they're happy to be in the show cage? And that they'll perch and not sit in the corner?
October 31, 200618 yr Thats right. They are calmer at night and will accept the Show Cage better. It gets them used to it. Like walking a show dog on a leash in a ring. He has to be calm and show for the judges. A budgie is no different.
October 31, 200618 yr so what will they be looking for in those two birds? What do YOU look for when selecting youngsters/ or adults. I find this really interesting and would like to find out a little more about what goes on. If you have 2 /3 young ones out of a clutch with similar body shapes do you then go on markings or colour- or will that change after the first moult? I spose some babies that look mediocre could come good after 6 months?
October 31, 200618 yr Hi Pie, In my case that two will be in different classes. But if you have similar type birds there are features to look at. Overall Condition of the bird. Head Shape Neck Body Tail Legs/feet Wings Eyes Beak Cere Size of the bird Colour Mask and Spots Markings Each one is broken down more. ................................................................................ .... Here is some photos of the chicks. Back right and front are the two in the show. More interested in the camera than the food. The left one is due to come out of the nest but as there is no eggs from the hen he will stay as long as possible. Young chicks showing. The eldest of these will be joining it's sisters in the nursary tomorrow. The one on the left keeps coming back to the Nest box. The one on the right will be leaving the nest box tomorrow. November 1, 200618 yr So all do these things have to be resonably good, or is it okay to have one or two of the things a little below average if the rest of the bird is quite good? Love pictures 4, 5 , 6 they look so proud. Edited November 1, 200618 yr by adelaidegirl
November 1, 200618 yr You hope that the birds is good for most points. It is hard to be good in everything.
November 2, 200618 yr Author Cute pictures yet again daz :hap: Tootie laid a new egg either last night or this morning Libra the youngest is only 32 days and only yesterday came out of the box I was hoping to leave them longer but I watching him today to see if he will be okay and I can remove the box. Cupid will soon be old enough to leave the family as well (i got his age wrong last time I said 39 but I think it was only 36 at that stage) I'm thinking of moving Tingle with her since she is a brave one and both sleep outside at night now. Seeing that egg made me think of Ringo and the amount of time she has been scratching inside the box since her two spend all day outside, and almost fell over with shock at seeing TWO eggs!!! Minika the youngest is 35 days old and both spend the whole day out so I'm adding a small box to the bottom of the cage for them and removed the nest box.
November 2, 200618 yr Thats great news nerwen, any photos for the ones coming out. As you know I usually take the chicks out of the nest after 28 days. Saying that I have two in the nest with the youngest is 28 days today. But as the hen hasn't started her next clutch i'll leave them be.
November 2, 200618 yr Author :(Laughing out loud): Great news?? I'm stoping Tootie becuase she still isn't showing signs of being fully in condition, as in her cere all fell off in the middle of feeding these guys and is only a very pale tan colour at the moment and Ringo is still all alone so she is only laying clear eggs :hap: I am planing on taking pictures of them when I move the oldest out into a new cage, there are some minor sqawbles over perch places and such so they need the extra room. Libra is already back in the box Edited November 2, 200618 yr by Nerwen
November 4, 200618 yr Author Here are some shots of Cupid and Tingle in the big cage. So much for giving more space to settle them all down in the ones still in the breeding cages wanted to join them and flapped and carried on even more for ages :(Laughing out loud): All has settled down now. Cupid and Tingle so far havn't found the food at the bottom of the cage but they found the millet and the bells to play with. Natual colour ( or as close to)
November 4, 200618 yr Nerwen - do you know which ones you're keeping and have you found homes for any yet?
November 4, 200618 yr Author No homes yet the adds i'm making are going around next week. But I'm keeping Darel, Czar, Mink and Storm.
