Posted August 28, 200618 yr hello, well i have put a pair of first timers in the breeding box and she has laid 3 so far.what is the chance of them being infertile or fertile ? thanks AARON
August 29, 200618 yr If I told you I knew I would also know the numbers in this week's loto The only way to be sure is to candle them and look. Here is a good site to explain candling. Candle Eggs
August 29, 200618 yr :(Laughing out loud): daz, I would love to know the lotto numbers too. There isn't a big decrease in chance of having firtile eggs from first times to seasoned breeders. The trouble come with egg tossing/eating, not feeding chicks or attacking chicks. Candling is a good way to check but do not throw any away if you are not experanced with it. You can mark them with a ? so you can tell later if they hatched or not so you can learn to see the signs.
August 29, 200618 yr That is true. I had a clutch that I thought was dead in shell and ended up with 5 chicks.
August 29, 200618 yr thanks guys i dont mind if they are infertile of fertile just wanted to know if anyone can tell as this is my first pair that is first timers
August 31, 200618 yr Sorry Aaron I don't understand what it is that you are asking. The egg will be either fertile or infertile. As I said you will need to "candle the eggs" to see if they are fertile or wait for 18 days from the laying of the second egg to see if they hatch. "Candling the eggs" mean to put a strong light behind the egg to "See" through the shell. I use an LED Torch. You can get one from Woolworths for about $5au. If you are asking if they could be fertile because this is there 1st time. That depends on thier age and condition when mating. Just because it is their 1st time doesn't mean good or bad. Success or Failure in the fertility area. You know one this. The hen is fertile. Until you find out if the eggs are fertile you don't know if the cock is fertile. Best of luck.
September 1, 200618 yr hi i just became a member here and my birds and myself are first timers with breeding. I need some serious help because none of them have hatched and the first egg was layed on the 4th of august when will they hatch and also is there any other way of telling them fertile or not cause my mum said im not allowed to touch them. :bluebudgie: :parrot: :nest: :budgiedance: :oliveb: :ausb: :ygbudgie: :grbud:
September 2, 200618 yr Hi and Welcome to the forum. :budgiedance: Your first egg should have hatched on the 24th August the second on or about that day. Third on the 26th, forth on the 28th, fifth on the 30th, sixth on the 1st......... The hen should start to throw the eggs out if they are no good. If she dosn't. wait for another week and throw them out. Edited September 2, 200618 yr by daz
September 3, 200618 yr Hi again i just candled them and one of them looks like it has a baby bird in it but mum or dad aren't sitting on it what do i do? :greenb: :greenb: :ygbudgie:
September 4, 200618 yr If you don't have an incubator or another pair with eggs, i would leave it with the hen until she throws it out or when it is 30 days old. You may hve a dead in shell chick. Sorry.
