Posted August 23, 200618 yr I have a aviery in the garden and at the moment it has 2 hens and 3 males (odd due to one sick bird taken out). I have 4 nesting box's in there today when I checked one of the hens has thrown out one of her eggs...no problem there. But the other hen has 4 eggs which she is guarding as the other hen keeps trying to get into her box. Question is should I move this hen with the 4 eggs in the nesting box to another cage? only problem is im not sure which one is her partner as I have two males that are identical. Your help would be appreciate as I would hate for a big fight to happen and loose all the eggs Barnesy :glare:
August 24, 200618 yr I would not move the hen that has the eggs or her nesting box. Disruption like that would most likely cause her to stop sitting on the eggs. I would move the problem hen if you could and any other spare birds that may be a problem while nesting is going on. Also how far apart are these nesting boxes...territorial disputes can occur if boxes are too close to each other as well as personality disputes. You can work out the sitting hens partner by watching who is feeding her too.
August 24, 200618 yr I was going to say the same was Karen (bubbles) If there is one one hen that is a problem removeing her means all the others can be left settled as they are.
