Chucky And Coke Do Not Mix!

A few weeks ago we had a close call with Chucky. She often plays on her gym which is on our table. We had just had dinner. She is forever exploring and climbing over things. We got up to do the dishes when we heard a funny noise. Chucky had climbed onto the rim of the glass which was half full of coke and had fallen head first in. The glass had to be tipped upside down to get her out. We were very lucky and so was she. We gave her a bath and she seemed fine. Even to this day she tries to get the drink out of the glass....she didn't learn anything from her near drowning experience........I sure did.

We know now that all she wanted was a bath!!! hehehe If she ever tries to get in our drinks we put a bowl of water out and she splashes wildly in it. :P

thanks for posting this I have seen pics of budgies looking in glasses etc...

I am glad she is okay.

:P well they say thing''s go better with coke

wow! sounds like you were very lucky!

Stitch is the same when I wash dishes in the sink he sits on the side kinda mesmerised for a bit and then jumps right in! I thought after the first couple of times he'd figure out the waters a little warm for his liking but no such luck!

:(Laughing out loud): That reminds me of one time when Sunny was walking along the edge of the sink and saw the white bubbles in there, and tried to jump onto them!!

He got the biggest shock of his life when he fell through and landed in the water (he hates water) and to make matters worse for him I had to rince him to make sure none of the detergent stayed in his feathers, which could have made him sick... :P

Thanks for the warning on the coke - I am always leaving coffee cups on the table while I go off to do something - with Bobbys new found love of milk it might be a good idea to cover it before I leave the room...

Definately they are so fast!!! It only takes you to turn your back for a few seconds!!!!

Our Pippin used to be forever trying to drink from glasses, and occasionally bathing in them too. He once tried to get to the water at the bottom of a glass with a slightly conical type shape (wide at the top, narrow at the bottom), and tipped himself too far. He became wedged! Thankfully, I was holding the glass at the time and he was no where near the water line, but the hilarious thing was he got straight back on the glass and did it again!

But we would never leave glasses of water unattended and he was usually discouraged from drinking from our glasses anyway (never stopped him trying, though!)

(Pip also ended up covered in chocolate cake mix at one stage, but that's another story for another time :D )

;) Thank you for resurrecting this post, it is a great one that applies to us all. :D

Yikes, I guess I have never stopped to think about budgies' inquistivie nature and openglasses or containers of water/ drinks! I guess my parents would never allow Yoda (family budgie) out and about during meal times...

However, when Mum and Dad went out, we would let Yoda out for the whole time the parents were away! :) He loved it! Mind you, one afternoon he did land in a bowl of custard.. That was tricky and sticky! He tries eating and drinking everything that we do - so we have to keep him in his cage when eating.. gosh! haha!

But thank you for this thread! :book:
