Hi!

Below is a picture (I hope it works!) of my proud parents to 3 eggs!

Any ideas of what may join our family as a result these two? I know I should be patient but I just can't wait!

Thanks for any thought you may have!

P.S you may need to copy& paste the link into your browser to see picture - I can't seem to make it work :ausb:

Edit: I fixed the link for you - Bea

Karen made it so the link works ( well she had the picture but it's too large so I changed it to a link)

Unless your male is split for blue and or recessive pied you will get all green ones like him. If he is carrying the blue gene you can get 50% blue and 50% green normals. If he is carrying a recessive pied gene you can get 50% normals 50% pied.

Karen's link isn't working...

Isnt now but was before :ausb:

So I have uploaded to photobucket and edited so you can all see budgie addicts photo budgieaddict.jpg

recessive pied muave cinnamonwing and a normal green?

I say muave because the blue down by the tail looks muave to me..

so I say normal greens split to blue/rec pied and males will be split to cinnamon, unless of course the green is split for any of the rec. genes.. or I am mistaken and the rec. pied is the male...

Thanks for your help in getting the photo up for me.Technology does beat me sometimes......................... or, okay, maybe alot! :) You are right the green is male and rec. pied is female.

I was thinking that all babies would probably be green but am even more excited now as there may be some surprises! This is Lady's first family (after losing her first eggs due to a jealous avairy mate - now evicted!) and she is being a very good mum.

Gee! 18 days has never seemed a long time before!

Gee! 18 days has never seemed a long time before!

I checked the nesting box yesterday, Lady now has 6 eggs and is a very attentive Mum, only coming out of the box for 30 secs at a time.

I have one question though! Can anyone foresee any problems- she has two very attentive males, the one I believe is Dad (I saw them mating) and another aviary mate. They seem to (very peacefully) take turns at standing on duty at the nesting box hole, feeding her and chattering to her! There isn't any sign of fighting or bickering between the two males at all or is she just a lucky girl who will have a neverending supply of food once the babes hatch?

I was in the aviary this morning - Lady now has 7 eggs in the nesting box! When will she stop? That means she has laid 11 eggs in the past 5 weeks. (Remember her first 4 were broken by another female) I am concerned about the impact of this on her health??

Also does anyone have any advice on my post above re: two "dads"

I would love to hear from those with more experience!

One of my birds also had two husbands...actually she had one and then I think the 'hubby' had a 'hubby'!! As the other male would feed him and be attentive to him while he looked after the female. He has since left her (sitting on eggs) for another woman (recently introduced for the spare male) so I now have two normal(?) pairs. He still visits her sometimes- both batches have been fathered by him although the other male is looking after his 'step'family beautifully. Not how I had planned it but thats life hey.

One of my females(Berry) had three males attending to her.

There was the bird(Moss) she mated with, who she let feed the chick ocassionly.

Her chosen mate Blue, who she liked very much

And then there was my avairy nanny (Lost) he went around the whole avairy feeding chicks from all four nestboxes! Lost never fought with anyone, and not one of the parents cared if he went in their nest, even if there was dad, mum, a few chicks and Lost. ;)

I am relieved to say that Lady seems to be happy at 7 eggs, it has been a couple of days with no additions to the clutch. I just did some math and we may have babes hatching this coming Sun/Monday!

I can't wait!!!

These 3 look similar to my 3 "parents" to be! (Laughing out loud)! Dad on the left, Mum on the right and 2nd Dad dab in the middle!

It would help her to be given a calcium supplement. Especially if she is not big on the cuttle bone or the minral block. Vets prescribe it in a syrup form to add to the water. It is not expensive and keeps for a very long time. Otherwise just give her lots of calciium rich foods apart from the egg food, like cooked eggs, low fat cottage cheese or yogourt. You can mix that with grated carrots or germinated seeds, whatever they like. If her calcium supply is not sufficient, she will depleat her own and get worned out. Making eggs takes lots of calcium and then there are babies to feed.
