To Breed?

Hi All :D

I have a beautiful blue male budgie, about 4/5 years old. He's gorgeous and quite smart- he talks alot and sounds quite like me! He's not so tame, I gave up or more-so ran out of time handling him when young.

I would like to breed him, as he's smart. I think he'll stop talking won't he if he has a girlfriend?

Also, what age should the other one be- about the same?

Thanks. :)

As long as the hen is under 3 years old and over 12 months she is okay to breed with. The age difference will not matter to them. A male shouldn't be used to breed with over 6 years.

Yes he will most likly stop talking. I must say to many here having a budgie that talks is VERY tame. I believe he will stop becuase when I got my male Pie he mimiced a phone ring but that stoped about two months after getting him when he started to bond strongly with my other bird at the time Freckle.

But then there are others like Una's Apple that flirts with other 'pet' birds in the house with all the words he knows.

I agree with the talking bit, Pretty just started chatting away and when I introduced Merlin he completely stopped. I don't give up hope :(Laughing out loud): I continue to say the things he used to say.

Una instant is rare I believe and they are all from the same line related so I think they have a good line there of talking budgies. Plus she her bond with Apple was so strong from the time he was hatched I think that makes a huge difference :).

huh, my budgie that talked would talk to his hen all the time, she had no clue as to the words meaning but she listened to him, he'd even do kissy noises while he was preening her.. guess every bird is different though.

I agree, like I said Una has 3 saying whatcha doing :(Laughing out loud):
