i have a pair who show all the signs of breeding normally male feeds female, head bobbing and so on but when the female lays she only ever lays two eggs and they are infertile, this has happened three times now, all six eggs have been infertile, any ideas

either she isnt a good breeder or they arn't mating correctly or he isn't firtile. Do you pair your birds up or is it natural love in your flock?? If you pair them up you could try both with different partners to see if you get a different result.

i would agree with nerwen try different partners i had a hen who only lays 3 eggs but some where fertile

i would try it but my only other pair are also in mid breeding so im kind of stuck

ahh that makes it harder. Not sure what to do, if it where my birds I would think about giving them a break for a few months and then try again.

good news people since i last posted she has laid another two eggs (4 in total) and is sitting on them all the time, mabey this could be third time lucky

If you haven't done so, it might pay to clip a few feathers away from both bird's vent. It will help with the matings.

I would now start to candle the eggs to see if the first two are fertile. You can do this after about 5 to 10 days.

i candled the eggs today and im not absolutely sure what im looking for but there was a little black shape that i think looked a little like an embryo but the others were clear, they may not be old enough yet im so excited, i really hope it is what i am saying

nope i used a torch, im so happy i hope it is right, she is being a really good mum sitting on her eggs constantly
