Posted August 15, 200619 yr Being new to having budgies outside in an aviary (my childhood budgies were in cages indoors), I am feeling very sorry for Smokey (new boy) he seems to feel the cold during the day so I have been keeping the blankets over half of the patio aviary to give him more protection. They are under the patio away from too many draughts but he sits on the perch and you can see him shivering... do some birds feel the cold more than others? Sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot!
August 15, 200619 yr can you discribe this shivering better? He isn't sitting fluffed up at all is he? Becuase that is a clear sign of a sick bugie that needs to be seen by a vet.

August 15, 200619 yr If he were cold, he'd be fluffy (and that could also mean he was sick). Are they constantly shivering or is it a bit random?
August 16, 200619 yr sometimes caged birds will shake their wings after a bit of fly around and such. it's good to hear he isn't fluffed. Edited August 16, 200619 yr by Nerwen

It is only first thing on a morning and occasionally during the day. I have been keeping half of their cage covered with a quilt and think this may be helping. I wonder if some budgies feel the cold more than others... I wondered about putting one of those little fluffy hut things in there, but i don't want to scare them to death!! When I move the cage into the sun he gets all excited and starts chirping etc so he seems healthy enough? :hap:
