New Pet Budgie ?

Featured Replies

Posted

We have a new pet budgie and I am wondering if it should be wormed, treated with vitamins or treated against any other kinds of infections that it may have.

I would be devestated if the poor thing died because of our ignorance.

Can anyone tell me what treatments a new budgie should be given and where these can be purchased?

How long should a new budgie be kept seperated from any others we have.

Thanks

worming and checking for mites would be a good idea,

red mites are easy to detect by turning the lichts off and using

a torch.

but if the bird is not showing signs of over scratching itself I wouldn't worry about it.

we should worm our birds on a regular basis,

Cheers

before doing any treatment because 99% of them don't need any I would take him to the avian vet for a well bird check if you are concerned.

Keep him quarantined from your other budgies and birds for 30 days and during this period you can watch him and socialize him if you are planning on it. :D

Thanks to both of you for the advice. I was a bit worried because a friend purchased a bird from a big chain pet store which I won't name because they might get mad.

- And the poor bird was dead within the week. It didn't look sick, they just found it lying on the bottom of it's cage one morning.

I am sorry to hear about your friends budgie but that is one PERFECT reason to quarantine.
