okay I'm not blaming either of my 2 budgies or anything (Laughing out loud), but there's 4 poeple living in this house & 3 of us all went down with a nasty cold within a day of each other. We all have close contact with my budgies, except for my dad & he's not gone down with any cold etc & I just can't remember nearly all of us going down with a cold all at the same time, could just be bad luck though :)

What I'm wondering was, is there any diseases that budgies can pass onto humans. Cassy I've had for nearly 6 years, but smarty I've had since april, neither shows any sign of illness, they're both as chirpy as ever :D

no it is not possible to get a cold from a bird

sorry to hear you are all sick

i don't think a budgie could give you the cold. they could give you a respiratory disease/allergy - sorry i cant remember the name of it

Karen got it from her birds aka bubbles you could PM her I remember the name but I can't spell it right :)

I caught psittacosis but that was from diseased birds. Any birds with psittacosis drop from their perch and die. The symptoms for people are the worst kind of flu symptoms, with fevers and chills and headaches, not being able to breath well to the point of pneumonia. I dont think you have psittacosis. You seem to have colds but, might I ask, is someone in the family trying to blame the birds ? Birds in the house can aggravate some peoples asthma.

Nobodys blaming the budgies, I'm pretty sure I would of became ill first if it did have anything to do with the budgies as I have the most contact with them, I just couldn't remember if it were possible for any illness to pass from budgies to people.
