If i had one female budgie alone in the house, what is the expected noise level. I know that all birds are different and it can be hard to generalize, but what do you think? Would she just chirp in the morning and at night. I can't remember how it was just having one by itself.... can you help?

budgies chirp and squawk and be noisy all day long. when Casper was on his own he would squawk and ack all day long. partly out of boredom i think, and trying to talk to the birds outside.

I find the louder the better

In fact when my kids are running around or if Tim or I are arguing with loud voices Pretty & Merlin get really acking no kidding.

 

So don't keep it quiet remember they live in flocks of 100's and 1000's of budgies all together.

There would still be noise throughout the day, but it would certainly be at least a little quieter than if you had more than one budgie.

Just realized I read the question wrong Pretty was much quieter by himself with the 2 now they are more constantly chirping and acking at times.

I now have a rainbow lorikeet added to the collection. Budgie noise, what noise? Can't hear it above someone else screeching.

:yellowhead: My first and favourite of all time budgie, Mickey was louder than all the budgies I now have combined! He was housed with another male, Max, and it didn't matter if the cover was on or not. When Mickey decided it was time to get going, he gave a large opening PEEP (attention please) and carried on ALL day into the night and for his last act, when the cage was covered and it was dark, he would give a soft, contented peep and that was it for a few hours. Whenever I was on the phone I had to move into another room as people thought there was an aviary happening in my living room but there were only 2 budgies!

So, again, I guess it depends on the bird.

I believe contented and happy budgies make noise. I say BUDGIES because if you have two or more, you are likely to hear all sorts of peeping, chirruping, singing, and carrying on. My birds can be heard over the phone, so I have to move to the bathroom or bedroom to hear better when they are putting on a show.

What other birds do you have? I've only seen rainbow lorikeets playing (like little hyped up monkeys) but I've never heard their screen in person. They're so cute.

my budgie hardly makes any noise, he does when he is outside and can here other birds, very rarely in the morning and never at night? he gets plenty of stimulation during the day and when ever we are out we always leave the radio on low for him and he has the dog to watch

Thats what i thought. Yeah.. i remember having two budgies and the noise they made. But i figured one alone especially a female will only really chirp when she hears other birds, content chirping, and other things to provoke her. Thaks for all the advice.

reading the previous post, do you think my budgie could be a girl? i have thought he was a boy, he is about 7-8 weeks old now and still has his blue nose? at what age can you tell for sure what sex budgies are?

Sometimes you can tell when they are still in the nest box, if you know what to look for. It is not easy to do though, and sometimes you can't tell until they are close to the first molt. At 7-8 weeks it could be easier to tell. If you can post a picture of your budgie in the pictures section or mutations section, we can give it a guess. If you don't have pictures, if the blue is light, or there are white or very pale blue "rings" of color around the nostrils that are lighter than the rest of the cere, you probably have a girl. If the cere is darker and closer to a purply-blue with no real color intensity changes from one part of the cere to the next, you probably have a boy.

That pretty much sounds like the "Tango" we have here. When I'm home during on the weekend, I notice her singing a lot. Very pretty little song stuff. The odd ack-ack sound, but that's usually only for a second and it's done. She seems to be one happy little budgie. Not sure I'd have appreciated her as much if she was a 'squawker'.
