Posted September 16, 200420 yr well one if the eggs have hatched but something is bothering me . I took a looking into the nestbox and the chicks crop looks to be totaly empty. I can hear it begging for food but i don't think the parents are feeding it. How long with budgies does it normally take for the parents to start feeding ? I am use to handfeeding cause i had to do it with all of my cockatiel babies cause i had a pair that would always stop feeding the babies. Edited September 16, 200420 yr by blvlguy
September 17, 200420 yr I don't have much experience or knowledge, but I would give it another few hours, carefully observe the behaviour of the parents and how they're interacting with the chick(s). Be prepared to handrear him, but don't leave it too late. These things do happen, and it sounds like this is the case for this one.
September 17, 200420 yr How long as it been now? you may want to give him one feed I read that sometimes the parent catch on after that. I don't have any experience this is my first time breeding and I'm not up to that part yet. Edited September 17, 200420 yr by nerwen
September 17, 200420 yr well when i first noticed the chick it was 3:00pm and i have been checking on the chick and it seems to be very strong but the crop still looks empty. I am wondering if they are feeding the chixk but just in small doses if the crop still looks the same i well go to the closest pet store and get some handfeeding formula.
September 17, 200420 yr the crop should be full if they are feeding it,you have two choices foster it if you can and place another chick in that is a few days old and has been fed or hand feed it acouple of times to keep its strength up it is not unusuall for a hen not to feed the first time it has chicks or evan the second clutch but if the chicks are making a lot of noise then you should be able to get the hen to relise she has to feed them
