West Nile Virus

West Nile Virus has been in the United States since 1999 and it can kill your birds. It's spread to birds, people, and animals through mosquitos. WNV causes inflammation in the brain and spinal cord. In years past it was mainly in Africa, the Middle East, and tropical Eurasia. I've seen quite a few dead birds recently and there have been confirmed cases in my area. There have been parrots killed in the United States by WNV. I thought everyone would benefit a little from knowing more about this virus.

;) This summer, the West Nile Virus has hardly been mentioned at all. The 2 to 3 years previously at the Wildlife Shelter ,we sent all dead crows for necropsy or advised all callers where to take the birds and emphasized the importance of good hand washing techniques. That subject seems to be on the back burner this year.......

I agree, I haven't heard a peep about it except that someone died of it (or was sick, I don't remember) around here.
