Looking Forward To Making Friends (added Pics!)

Hi all, I'm Darren (but most call me Vern).

Obviously I'm new here and decided to say hello! I've been a closet reader for a while now and never joined due to lack of time but I couldn't hold out any longer.

I'm 29 and love animals, especially birds of all natures. My family has a hoard of animals:

7 chinchillas, 2 rabbits, 1 greyhound, 1 guinea pig, 1 gerbil (we sadly lost Dilbert the hampster, Titch the rabbit and snowey the guinea this year).

To compliment our heard I have three wonderful budgies :P

The eldest is Kiwi, a plump old girl who is around 8 years old. She belongs to my step daughter. Kiwi is kept company by Weebl.

Weeble is around 2 years now. Originally he had his own cage as a baby. He is very confident, playful, mad and probably one of the happiest birds alive. He loves life. He now lives with Kiwi and they are great companions.

Finally, we have Gimpy. Gimpy is around 8 months old. We brought him from a certain national "pets shop" as an act of rescue. Gimpy was in a crowded avery with many other birds picking on him, pulling his feathers etc. Gimps has deformed feet. Although a happy and content little bird he does struggle a little with his left foot. We've made him comfy though and he's a great little friend. Sadly, when we reported the shop to the RSPCA they didn't seem to concerned and told us off for rescuing him. I have no regrets as he's brilliant.

EDIT - PICS ADDED :)

This is Gimpy. Full of attitude as usual.

Weeble (right) and Kiwi (left). Both sulking as they were interupted during play. Weebl can be seen here in a rare moment of silence and reflection. The peace won't last (Laughing out loud).

wow Nice to mee your Vern :P all your pets sound wonderful. Poor Little Gimpy I'm glad you have him. Since you have been a lurker I'm sure you know we all love photos here. Yes I know you promised some allready but a nudge doesn't get a stray (Laughing out loud).

I hope to see more of you around now :)

Nice to meet you :P

Would love to see pics of your budgies and all your animals :)

:P Hi Vern, nice to meet you, I appreciate people that enjoy and take care of a lot of animals properly (as so many don't), you must show us pictures of all of your buddies. Bunnies are my favourites next to birds. :)

Hey Vern! Sounds like you nearly have a farm! Can't wait to see some pics :P

Hi Vern and welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy. :)

hiya nice to meet you! your birds are gorgeous!

Hello :( Beautiful budgies you have.

Doesn't Gimpy have scaly face mites? It looks to me on that picture :D

I was thinking the same thing, they're gorgeous though.

We are trying to get Gimpy into the vet for tomorrow if we can get an appointment. I'm looking forward to the vet trying to handle him. Gimpy doesn't like strangers or anyone in his space (Laughing out loud).

I'll keep you all posted to his progress :D

Thanks for your concern.

okay, I hope he's better soon. Don't forget to tell the vet you have more budgies - they will probably need to be treated all (if it's mites).

Hi Guys,

Just a quick update on the Gimp! He now has his second dose of medicine from Mr Vet. The Vet was supprised the first lot didn't clear the problem fully :) Anyways, we now have drops for him and will attempt to apply them later.

Gimpy isn't the most social bird outside of his cage and catching him is going to be fun. I'll try and get some pics of him giving us the run around!

Vern.

:yellowhead: Glad Gimpy is getting the treatment he needs and will be cleared of those awful mites soon. :)
