New Sick Baby Budgie

Hello im a new member to the forum and need some help, i have always had a budgie as long as i can remember and been luck enough that one has never been ill. i have recently brought a 6 week old baby budgie 3 days ago and i think he is ill. :ausb: he is very quiet and often sits in the same position for long periods of time with out hardly moving. i have also only seen him eat once the whole time i have had him, i didnt know if he was getting any water so i have put a shallow bath of water on the floor for him to see, which again i havent seen him drink from  . but the main thing that is worrying me is that he has green poo, and only pooed lthe normal amout for a budgie the first day he has been with me, and that was green, and only twice since. he also hunches up and makes his feathers puffed and stays in that position for ages. i did think he was constipated or after reading web sites and your previous posts stressed. please help me this is the first sick budgie i have had and i dont know what to do?

:)

Oh you poor thing. Okay, first thing you need to know is that by the time a bird shows symptons, he has been ill for a while, and is now very sick. Please go to your nearest avian vet urgently. Birds are totally different to other animals, so you need a specialist in birds. Look in your phone book under avian vets, ring your local vet and ask them where an avian vet is, have a look on here, I'm sure we have a list of avian vets, ring the local pet shop they might know.

And, the second most important thing - let us know how it goes. It's a shame we have to meet you under these circumstances, but we hope you will stick around and join in with us

While calling around to find someone and I'm not sure what the time is in your side of the world. Cover his cage up at least three sides or if he has a night cover use that the extra sleep will not harm him. If you have a bed light or even a desk lamp that will fit place it as close as possible to the cage and turn on (okay might be an idea to keep the cover away from that area of the cage) He will sit under the light to keep warm which will help him focus on healing rather than trying to keep warm too. And keep movement and noise to a minimum around him.

he seem to of perked up abit and acting like a normal budgie, he is moving around the cage alot more and has actually made some noise!!! :ausb: he is still fluffing him self up and picking at his bottom which has stained his feathers green, but still no freash poos :) i wil post a picture of him (sparkie) soon, Thank you all for your help. :angel1:

Definitely get him in asap, sounds very bad even if he's perking up. I've seen them perk up just before dying. I'm sorry to be grim, but I just want to reflect the urgency of the situation. Good luck, and keep us posted.

:D sparkie is still with us guys! and very active! and his is pooing and they are looking very normal! could i of been over reacting and to protective of my little friend? it seems that he is still fluffing up but when he sleeps. i have put him in a quiet room with a video camera so i dont need to disturb him and it seems that he moves around the cage fine and looking normal and the only time he fluffs up is when he his going to sleep, he fluffs up his rump and lowers his head, could this just be the way he needs to sit to balance on the purch? or and i getting to excited to soon? :D

:grbud:

I would still take him to the vets. When i got Ozzie he had very similar symptoms and he needed an injection and medication. Another thing i would do is worm him, as he's new chances are he's never been wormed before. You can get worming treatment from the pet store.
