August 10, 200618 yr Hi guys, you are all talking about English bugies, please can you tell me what the differences are? are they bigger? i obviously have an English budgie being in england but i havent noticed and visual differences between our budgies here and yours. is it the weight and size that is different?
August 11, 200618 yr There generally is a marked size and weight difference. But they also sell the smaller "American" budgies on your side of the pond. As a very basic description, American budgies are smaller, around 7" long, and ideally weigh between 28 - 33 grams. Budgies are supposed to be lean birds. Most of these budgies probably weigh more than is ideal because we keep food around them all the time and they do not have to fly or forage to get it. "English" budgies are longer, closer to 8 1/2" long, have a stockier build with big poofy heads, and should weigh around 45-50 grams. Some weigh more or are larger due to breeding to a show standard, and also for the reason stated above about a plentiful food supply.
August 11, 200618 yr Mine budgies aren´t English budgies, they regular/standrad/american budgies. But as in people budgies comes in all sizes and shapes. Some have bigger bonestructure, some tend to eat a lot some eat little and are happy anyway. A regular budgie can weight between 30-45g. The English should weight a lot more.
September 15, 200618 yr Can I refer to the terms English and Americian... English is a term refered to the larger show budgies. Americian is a term in America to discribe the smaller pet budgie. But all budgies are Australian. Like the Americian Cougar or Grizzley Bear. The English Squirril or the African Lion. It can get confusing for some
September 15, 200618 yr My standards are around 30-35 g, but my big old english ones, sugar on her last vet visit was 52 g! fatty fatty (Laughing out loud)
