Posted September 15, 200420 yr Hello Again It has been a while since i last posted but i was really busy... I will update you all with what happened till now. last time i posted i asked for help cause one of my pairs was not laying eggs, i had 7 budgies in my cage and i built my own box nest. After no succes in laying even after i followed all the tips you all gave me i decided i should buy a ready made nest box and i bought 3 cause i have 3 pairs. While i was fixing thes boxes to my cage i decide to build an avairy (medium one)and so i did a week after i had the first egg to be exectly on the24th August. Holly layed 6. exectly 18 days after they started hatching (11 September) till now two hatched and i think that that the others aren't fertile . but Holly opened one of them. the rest are still whole and she still stays on them. Pete (Holly's '' male'') is feeding her and she comes out only to poo. Now my prob is that the nest box is dirty with pieces of seeds and the opened egg shells. Shall i remove them? i need some advice.
September 15, 200420 yr How wonderful!!! Congratulations on the eggs and babies! I'll bet you are so excited. Is she comfortable with you putting your hands in the box while she's out of it? Skittles ate her eggshells after the babies hatched, so I'm not sure if you should remove them, or just move them to the opposite end of where she's laid all the eggs. You don't want to stress her too much...maybe I would just move them for now. I didn't clean out my nest box until the babies were about three weeks old. Rainbow used to kick all the droppings out of the hole, so it didn't really need it until then.
September 16, 200420 yr definitely exciting! i cant wait til it hatches, (Laughing out loud), i've never seen one hatch.
September 17, 200420 yr last night i dreamt that i was having a peep in the nest box and i saw it hatching. i am so happy Edited September 17, 200420 yr by maltabudgie
