Posted September 15, 200420 yr Is oystershell used for the same purpose as grit? I know it has more calcium in it but do the birds use it to help grind up their food as they do with grit? If so could I just use oystershell and take away the grit? Thanks Julie
September 15, 200420 yr Somewhere in the forums there was a discussion about grit, but I don't remember offhand which forum it was in. There are two differing opinions about grit. If you want to offer something anyway, I would think oystershell would do the same thing. At least you know they would be getting the calcium.
September 16, 200420 yr hmm... i offer grit, but mine dont seem to like it. i've even mixed it with crushed hulled oats (like for oatmeal) and they eat the oats and leave the grit. ah well.
September 16, 200420 yr Mine actually use the grit quite regularly but I don't want to clutter the cage by having pots of both in if oystershell will do the same job. Julie
