Posted July 28, 200619 yr Can it be any problem to pair up an very small (32g) normal budgie male with an english budgie (show budgie) female? Is it harder for them to mate and breed than if they were the same size?
July 28, 200619 yr I have a much larger male than his chosen female and they managed successfully. I am not sure how well you would do though, if the male was the smaller one. :budgiedance:
July 28, 200619 yr There isn't a problem. I've had a smaller male to the hen and they had 5 great babies and a larger male to the hen with no troubles. Just to let you know most of us on here refer to them as PET (normal/americain) budgies and SHOW (english) budgies. Since all budgies are Austalian. Do you have any pictures of the pair for us to see?

August 5, 200619 yr Just to let you know most of us on here refer to them as PET (normal/americain) budgies and SHOW (english) budgies. Since all budgies are Austalian. Either way you say it, you're going to be inaccurate in some sense. Yeah, all budgies are australian but NOT all budgies are show budgies and some "show" budgies are only pets. It would get confusing if we didn't have other terms to use. Show budgies are almost always pets and identifying a "pet" budgie is giving out the idea that show budgies don't make very good pets. No matter what, you're going to end up labeling the birds wrong, might as well let people say what they're used to saying. As long as we know what they're talking about, what's it matter? Most people I know call them english and american (or standard) budgies. It's not a big deal as they know where they originate. But, back on topic! I've heard of plenty of people breeding show budgies to pet budgies with no problem. Makes for some super cute birds too.
August 6, 200619 yr Yes Nyos she is. Thank Terri I hadn't thought of the show type budies that are kept as pets, even knowing Julie and her two big boys (Laughing out loud).
