What Colours Should I Expect

Featured Replies

I would love to know what type and colours these budgies are. I thought the white one might be albino but his eyes are black and he has more of a greyish tinge to his body. I thought lutino for a full yellow female but again black eyes does this matter. Id love to hear from anyone cause im just starting out. also what type/ colour babies should i expect?

Sorry no pics yet i dont get how to post them some help there would be good also thanks

Pictures would really help, especially the one with the greyish tinge.

They could be Dark Eye Clears or they could be Double Factor Spangles

To tell the difference the DEC do not get an iris ring and the DFS to get an iris ring.

How old are they and do they have an iris ring?

To answer your question if they don't have red eye they can't be either an albino or lutino.

Here is a good site that explains both of those mutations and maybe there is an example of your white greyish budgie too http://www.geocities.com/budgie-place/p_colors.html

picture would really help, the grey tinted one, that could be from DF spangle (sometimes they get some colour on their body still) OR it could even be a dilute of some sort. It's hard to say with out seeing the bird.

I have a picture of the female ill try to get onr of the male. I had another look at the birds today and in a certain light their eyes look red. The male looks white but he has really light makings in some light. Also the female has just laid her first egg today!

okay I can't see iris rings around the eyes. Still not sure about Marie. You spoke about seeing some red to the eyes in some light and that makes me think you might have two DEC (Dark Eyed Clears) here. This is a bird with a dominant pied gene and a ressive pied gene. The two gene compine to make an all white or all yellow bird. Their eyes can be a plum colour.

As babies (Nerwen or someone can you make sure I am correct)

You would get

75% Dark-Eyed Clear

25% Recessive Pied

Yellow is dominant over white

If your yellow is split for white based then you would get white based budgies but if not they will all be yellow based.

I can't actually find a list of outcomes anywhere for two DEC but after thinking it over AND looking at your answer Lovey I thought you where right for a moment, but then what about if one baby gets one gene for the dominant pied from both parents??

Results:

50% DEC

25% Recessive pied

25% Double Factor Dominant pied

Look at the website I posted and then click on DEC and then genetics scroll all the way down that is where they put the results for 2 DEC, tell me what you think Nerwen. :budgiedance:

interesting, I looked up another genetic page one that works it out for you. The link is around here someonwhere, and it has the same as you.
