From Reserved To Psycho Bird

Flash is just settling in...up to this point has been a quiet little guy

The last 2 nights, I opened the window by his cage about 7:30PM, and let him hear the twilight bird racket outside and smell the fresh summer air.

Suddenly, he goes from mild mannered perch warmer to Flash the arobatic clown. He jumps on the cage wires...turns somersaults...wrapping himself up in umcomfortable positions, legs across his neck (!?)...Jumps to the highest perch and dives headfirst into his seedcup...where he tosses the seeds left and right (like a dog buring a bone) repeats a few times...then runs up the perches and noisily flings his ladder from the side wall across the cage...then pops back to the top perch and attacks the string it is made from...the back to the seed cup diving...oh, and while in the cup...pulls on the seed cup door to try to open it (he knows it goes up and down).

...is this normal afternoon budgie bewitching...? I notice the birds outside seem to call alot right before dark.

I had not noticed before getting Flash.

Thanks!

the sounds of the birds are probably driving him nuts and he is looking for it. I would say getting more excited during the evening is normal my 2 do it but I would not let him hear those birds so much so he doesn't drive himself mad looking for them :D

:) This is normal "witching hour" behaviour. I volunteer at a wildlife shelter and between 7 and 8, most of the baby birds that I am taking care of go crazy, they leap onto my head or me, jump out of their enclosures onto the next closest thing or the the floor. The older babies outside in the aviaries (before release) start fluttering around, not too terribly interested in the last feeding and perching up high so I can't reach to feed them. I have coined this "silly time". Sometimes my "kids" get a little crazy as well in the evening but they seem to settle down fairly quickly, guess the stimulus is the outdoor birds calling. :D
