Posted July 24, 200618 yr Hi people, I got an email from a friend today about their friend that lives in Merriden WA, it's a country town about 5 hours east of Perth. She loves budgies and apparently does well with breeding. Below is a copy the email. We took our grandies back to Perth Saturday and had a phone call early Sunday morning to say someone had broken into our aviary and breeding room. I have lost 90 percent of my stock including breeding pairs and fledged chicks. They left the under a week old chicks to die. Be warned....even locks can be taken off. The person/persons levered the hoop that holds the latch back on the aviary, put a garden fork against the door, out went the birds what the cats didnt get including the quails. The breeding room....the took the whole bolt off the door with a screwdriver as they couldnt unlock the lock....that is missing. I have wonderful neighbours who called the police.....they cleaned up the dead chicks, buried them along with the cold eggs. None of the equipment was taken. At this point in time I just dont want to start up again, I cant afford to anyway. 70 adults and over 130 rung chicks went and about 30 more unfeathered chicks. The vet took some that were left in the nest box and is hand feeding them and will bring them to me today to feed them. Edited July 24, 200618 yr by Paulh29
July 24, 200618 yr How absolutely devastating! Those poor people, losing all their birds. I can understand why they feel they don't want to start again, but I hope they do - just to show the animals that did this that they can't win!
July 24, 200618 yr What mongrels !! I hope all petshops have been informed that cheap birds might be doing the rounds. But chances are someone will be using these birds to start what they think is a small business. Would have to be someone who knows what was there or has been on the premises before. Makes you not want to trust anyone ever again.
July 24, 200618 yr If the chicks are "rung" couldn't they be traced if they showed up in petsores, etc. I know I'm being optimistic but perhaps petstores could be alerted to watch for the numbers on the rings????
July 24, 200618 yr Disgusting, so sorry this had to happen to them. Edited July 24, 200618 yr by Phoebe
July 25, 200618 yr I'm so sorry to hear this :ausb: The poor birds. I to wonder if the pet shops could be warned about sale of stolen birds, but it sounds to me they just let the birds fly free. I would still put up info about the ring numbers some could be found by people later.
July 25, 200618 yr exactly the same happened to me i know exactly how they feel I was thinking of you when I read this Hath. :ausb:
July 25, 200618 yr Author This is the latest email on this sick ordeal Things are looking up as I post this topic. They say when you fall off a bike, get back on again. So I did. I cleaned oout all the cabinets, washed everything , checked what birds were left and put some pairs down to breed. I have 8 pairs. The local vet is a budgie breeder too and she rescued some chicks and hand fed them yesterday and showed me today what to do. Now Im a mother again said my husband. The MBC I believe are rallying around and giving me some birds. The most upsetting thing Paul is the way someone let the helpless newly hatched chicks die. I believe now after talking to my neighbour that someone has deliberately let them out. Cheers Paul Edit: Topics Merged Edited July 25, 200618 yr by daz
August 6, 200618 yr Just now read this. How very upsetting. How can anyone with such low intelligence survive? People with brains would never contemplate doing that.
