Posted July 25, 200618 yr My hubby has just completed my new aviary which is 2mtr x 2mtr square. He has 1/2 mesh roof and 1/2 colourbond, but has sheets of timber to lay down over the mesh for wet weather or hot sun protection. Not a bad effort on his part seeing it is only 2 months since he had all those strokes. While this was being done, I have all my budgies and quails in various cages all around the house, including laundry and flat. It keeps me busy running from cage to cage to make sure I have remembered to feed them all and clean out the cages:( . Now can anyone tell me if it is safe to grow sweetpeas against the mesh walls? Cindy
July 25, 200618 yr very nice Cindy glad your hubby is doing better as for the sweetpeas I will leave that to the avairy experts here
July 25, 200618 yr Well I think the sweet peas are fine to feed them but I don't know if the birds will leave the plant along enough for it to grow as you are wanting :ausb: It's a great avairy, can't wait to see the birdies in there.

Thanks. Yes I know they will prune them well, so I don't expect they will grow very high, but if keeps them amused, and they have almost killed everything else I put in there anyway. Cant wait to put the birds back in there, I just have to put some soil and lucerne on the floor for the quails then all birdies go the their Hilton-on-Penrith. :ausb: Cindy
July 25, 200618 yr THAT AVIARY IS STUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ausb: Like i actually want to marry it! Your hubby did a great job! Also, i love the layout! Looks perfect for many( ) budgies!!!!!! Did you make those ladder perch things? They are a fabulous idea! Overall, great job! Kirby
July 26, 200618 yr Good size aviary...Pat hubby on the back. Your birds will love it. Safety door next
July 26, 200618 yr Or you could just get some plastic streamers like they have in the door way of fish and chip shops, those work well as a sort of safety thing.
July 27, 200618 yr Author looks a nice flight but what about a safety door ? No safety door yet. Did not want to pressure him to do more work:angel1: . My 'safety door' is a lace curtain that I just pull down, when I want to leave the aviary. They dont worry when I enter, but I can still use the curtain if I need to. But a safety door is on my list of things for him to do. Cindy THAT AVIARY IS STUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :fear Like i actually want to marry it! Your hubby did a great job! Kirby :(Laughing out loud): I can just see a wedding with you and an aviary Those swingy things are actually rails off an old baby cot, and Fred just off centred the 2nd row. One is hung by fine wire and the other is hung by stainless steel chain. The birds love them. Cindy
