So i need help who do i train first... how...where and when? i'm desprate hey fly away from me i actuly dont think of them as my pets or even friends as they just fly away from me
July 24, 200618 yr Go to www.budgietalk.com for taming tips I also suggest reading about wing clipping (I am not saying you should or shouldn't) what I am saying is it may be for you to assist you in taming. I don't want to get jumped at (Laughing out loud) some people are very against it. Really anything I can say is really said best on this site.
July 26, 200618 yr Well if you want experience both of my birds were clipped. I let Pretty grow out and I tamed him first and had him for 9 months then I got Merlin who was already clipped and still is unable to fly. I haven't decided if I will keep them clip I will have to decide if they remain tamed or if I will have to chase them down (Laughing out loud). The question is what do you want out of taming? All birds are different.
July 26, 200618 yr lovey asked a very good question. What DO you want out of taming? What are your expectations? "Tame" means different things with different people. It can even vary from bird to bird. Some will visit with you, sit on your finger every now and then. Others want to be with you all the time. A lot of this depends on the personality while the rest depends on training, how many birds you have, how much time you're able to devote to them, etc. There's an article on wing clipping in the Budgie Talk forum here on this site. I'd suggest reading it, doing some thinking, and then considering if a wing clip is right for you and your situation. Depending on if you want to clip or not, the training methods vary a bit. Give us some more details on what you want, if you want to keep them flighted or clipped, and we can offer more detailed tips on taming. Also, how old are your budgies? How long have you had them and what room are they kept in?
July 27, 200618 yr what i want AT LEAST is The birds to perch on my finger and just not be afraid of my hand or sholder i will get some pics because i dont know how ol they are they dont have many bars on their head so there not that young Edited July 27, 200618 yr by Timebird
July 27, 200618 yr What do they do now when you put your hands in the cage? What techinques have you tried already and for how long did you work with it? Do you train them together or separate? Is one more timid then the other?
July 27, 200618 yr How often do you rearrange their cage? Have you tried taking one to a room like the bathroom (seat down!) where there are few distractions (cover the mirror) and few perches other than you? Please do check out Eterri's site, budgie talk, as she has put all the best hints and techniques there. We can help you with anything that doesn't appear to be working
July 27, 200618 yr I put my hand in every day and talk softly to them they sometimes eat Millet from me but sometimes just fly away i stay by the cage alot but even if i do have a good trainin lesson the next time i do it they seem to forget that i'm their friend... My old budgie Litsu who died sadly came on my finger alot! she loved it but the mistake i made with kiwi and sky is i just put them together and love each other. Thanks for thee help i'm glad that every one on this forum takes time to help pepole and i have already reccomended this to friends. PS: if i get one bird out and take him to the bath room if i place him on my sholder or something while in the bathroom is that okay? because he can fly or do i just place him on the sink shelf and let him come to me in his own time? tHank you
July 27, 200618 yr Training takes a long time. Take one bird to the bathroom - he's going to fly around and act like you are trying to kill him! I suggest you take a book in, sit and ignore the bird! Eventually he will calm down, and start to be interested in where he is. It might take a few sessions, but he will come and land on you. Firstly, because it is quite a boring room, secondly because your not looking at him - predators stare at a bird, if your not looking eventually he will figure out your not going to harm him, and thirdly because you will be holding some yummy millet.(when training make sure the only time they get millet is from your hands) Let the bird decide the pace - if you try to grab the bird you will scare him and he will lose any trust in you. Have you tried Eterri's site? She goes through this process step by step.
