Posted July 24, 200619 yr Okay, so I've had the great privilage of living right next to my girls for the past month or so, since I took them to school with me and I spend a lot of time next to the cage watching and talking to them. Well, I noticed right away this morning that they were a bit on the hyper side. (running up and down their perch, flapping their wings) Well, just a moment ago, Buttons started to arch her back and make all sorts of squeaking noises, as Sheldon mounted her. This has happened a few times now, however they have settled down. I'm almost 99 percent positive I have two females, so I was a bit intrigued by this behavior. Has anyone else experienced this?
July 24, 200619 yr Do you have pictures of them and ones of their ceres so we can check it out too? When I first got Merlin, Pretty tried to jump on him but the advancements were well told off . These are 2 males.
July 24, 200619 yr My budgies made pairs as well and some of them are 2 females or 2 males. One of my males tries to mate with his friend (male), but the other male chases him away I think all budgies do this, it's a instinct, isn't it? And some of them mate with a perch too Edited July 24, 200619 yr by Zebra
July 24, 200619 yr Author Picture Here's a picture of them from a few weeks ago. Button's (the yellow one) cere has since turned a lighter tan color. My budgies made pairs as well and some of them are 2 females or 2 males. One of my males tries to mate with his friend (male), but the other male chases him away I think all budgies do this, it's a instinct, isn't it? And some of them mate with a perch too Haha. I wish my girls were more fond of me. I need some affection. Just Kidding... I don't understand their behavior or relationship. You'll see them grooming each other a minute after fighting over the food dish. Edited July 24, 200619 yr by brunof

July 24, 200619 yr oh yeah both females in breeding condition so it doesn't surprise me to reduce the behavior you can 1. limit the light they get everyday, I usually cover mine by 7 or 8 and uncover around 8 or 9 this gives them solid 12 hours of night which they need it mimics winter days. 2. Don't know how much you feed them but when you give them exactly what they need and not overstuff the food bowl it will also help. In the wild when food is abundant they mate. 3. Don't know if you have them by running water? fish tank, sink etc..but again another trigger for mating behavior.
