Posted July 24, 200618 yr Hi - I'm new. My name is Kylie, i currently have 40 budgies ( the newest member hatching this morning ). I started off with 4 budgies as pets about 9 yrs ago and have been breeding them for about 5 years. Not sure how 4 quickly expanded to 40 ... lots of budgie adoptions and fly-ins I just couldn't say no to. I also have 10 Cockatiels ( very noisy backyard ). I found this site looking for places to sell my babies and reckon it's a great idea - finally people to talk budgies with , without sounding like a weirdo. I have currently studied genetics at university - hence the obsession with breeding budgies and would appreciate any info regarding colour mutations. After reading many of your forums before deciding to join, i noticed that you like pics, but 40 pics is a little difficult (plus i can't figure how to add them ).
July 24, 200618 yr Hi there - Welcome! :ausb: Sounds like you have your handsfull with your many feathered friends - just the way we like it!! Over time I am sure you will manage to post pics of all 40 hehe!! Most of us have a photobucket account http://www.photobucket.com/ It is free and you just upload your pics from your computer to this site, then paste the URL to the picture in your post and there they are! There are also image size restrictions of 450 x 450 pixels so it is a good idea to download a photo resizing program such as mircosoft photo editor or photo gadget pro - I use photo gadget pro and it is great - but I paid for mine - it didn't cost too much but I think mircosoft is free (sorry don't really know anything about that one ) Anyway I hope you enjoy yourself here, looks like you have plenty of knowledge you will be able to share around. It's one of my favorite websites because I'm so nuts about mine and I love looking at other people's beautiful, cute budgies!!! Yeah I worry I too get thought of as weird when I talk about mine like kids so much! (Laughing out loud) Welcome! I'm just a pet owner, but I'm willing to learn whatever I need to, to make sure mine live a good, long, happy life.

July 26, 200618 yr Author hey - i think i figured out this resize and upload thingy. I actually have 2 aviaries (1 for breeding and one to house the rest ) , so i have added pics of both and 3 of my cutest babies (skitz, pretty girl and spangle). Please note that the large hanging things infront of the aviaries are merely my mother's attempt at hiding them with hanging pots . There is also an alterior motive to posting these pics - i am slightly confused as to the wing markings of the first 2 babies ( i assume the 3rd is a spangle, hence its name), so any ideas would be great. I'm not sure what the greywing/clearwing stuff is and whether it is responsible for the dilution of colour.
July 26, 200618 yr Oh they are beautiful Here is a great site to help clear up the greywing/clearwings I know I still get confused. http://www.geocities.com/budgie-place/p_colors.html I believe your baby is a Skyblue Spangle Opaline and I would think if she was any of the grey wings/clear wings I would go with clearwings because she looks like she has a bright body, her coloring doesn't look diluted. Lets see what others say too , if you don't get alot of response repost the pictures under the mutation section.
July 26, 200618 yr Hi Hi Welcome. I'm also getting my heads around genetics. There are some experts around... so you'll probably get some answers foryour questions regarding genetics. Here are my guesses.. though I can't really see the wings which make it a bit harder to tell. here goes.. First baby...clearwing Opaline cobalt (may be dilute) second baby... Clearwing Opaline spangle cobalt Third baby... Opaline Spangle cobalt Oh they are all gorgeous!!! I wanna give them all a big big cuddle!!! hehe
