Ohh lUcky you :ausb: I love finding hidden traits. Such as Marine carrying the opaline gene (which means Pie is too)

I'm sure if I visit Daz I'll leave with another cutie :(Laughing out loud): But I'm on the look out for older birds this time round. Thanks for the info.

Nerwen check out the Lions Hall at the Pine Rivers Show 4, 5, & 6 August. I will be maning the stand from 11:00am to 5:00pm on the 5th. There might be some Show Birds for sale.

:ausb: Will mark the date and time in Daz. If I havn't found any by then I'll be there.

I came accross a new Nest Box that the top breeders are raving about. It is deeper so that the chicks stay longer in the nest box. I made one up last night to try and will try to bring some to the Show to sell for the club. I'll get a photo for you to let you know they look like..

They are good for Breeding cages or Open Breeding (colony) :D

:D Just happened that way.... My Plan was to buy normals at the last Auction but I came out with a Spangle :) and another opaline.

I think I'll be keeping the Normal Hens and culling the Split Cocks and Opaline Hens in the next generation.

I also have a few Cinnamons.

Daz, the new nesting box you are referring to. Is it anything like a scarlets nesting box...like an upturned L-shape? I have some scarlet nesting boxes and my budgies seem to prefer them over anything else. They have an upper level and a lower level. The entry hole is in the upper level with a small platform area there, then that drops down to the lower area where the eggs are laid and chicks reared. It has a top hinged lid. This nest would enable the chicks to stay in the nest longer till strong, stop them from accidentally falling out, and also allows Dad to get in and feed Mum and Bubs without stepping on anyone or without actually crowding them either. When the chicks are ready they climb to the upper level and sit there and think about fledging for awhile and also are there to be fed by Dad. I and budgies both like this type of nest. It seems to work really well. I have noticed that the chicks do stay in the nest just a little bit longer than the others. Also Mums are less likely to throw out nesting materials as its too hard to do so.

:fear are you mistaking me for someone who knows genetics, Jenni ?! ;) Are you going to tell me now that I have one and just dont know it yet ? :P

Now Now Girls... Just have a go. Thats how we (Including me) Learn ;)

okay....me being not the brightest spark re genetics would say that Lutino masks any colour so if a bird was an opaline spangle it would just look like or be a lutino. ;)

;) :fear Well !! Paint me red and call me a letterbox !! :fear :fear Does this mean I am learning something ??!

(Laughing out loud) Hello Letterbox :fear ;)

Does this mean I am learning something ??!

Either that or it was a lucky guess

Bubbles the best way to remember that one is that Cinnamon is a colour. Spangle and Opaline is a type of markings.

So you are right. An Opaline Spanle Lutino is Yellow. You will only know when you breed it. ;)

AXX042.jpg

and find a red eyed lutino baby and a yellow recessive pied in the box....how did that happen ? :blink

Daddy is carring the gene. The bub could also be masking the spangle gene hidden under the ino gene if she got it from one of them.

and sorry I had to change your pictures to link becuase of oversizing.

If the baby is a boy he could be split to opaline as well.
