Posted July 23, 200619 yr For starters, here's a picture of my budgie. Anyway, how should I get him to get used to a new cage? Everytime I've tried he gets scared to death of everything new in the cage, and he starts climbing walls and just looks like he's going to die of a heart attack if I don't put him back in his old cage. Any ideas? Thanks.
July 23, 200619 yr Put all his old perchs and toys in the new cage. When i add something new to any of my budgie's cages they get scared at first but you just have to leave him to adjust.
July 23, 200619 yr You can keep both cages open and let him explore his new cage on his own. Divide up the toys in both cages. Put the food & water in the new cage only but assortment of toys in the old cage. Give it a couple days like this and at night let him sleep in the old cage no harm. Until you see him getting more comfortable and staying longer in the new one. He will warm up fast.
July 23, 200619 yr Nice picture! He is a gorgeous bird....he almost looks flourescent! It's like he's glowing! :(Laughing out loud):
July 23, 200619 yr Sounds like you have been given great advice, your bird is very pretty, what's his name?
July 23, 200619 yr My birds didn't have much trouble adjusting to their new cage. Of course they had to get new perches, new feeders, and a much taller ladder. I still put the old toys into their cage because they knew it from the first one they were in. After the crowded smaller cage, they just ran into their new home!!! They had no problems adjusting. They took to the branch perch like it was the greatest thing to happen to them since the millet treat. They both now rest on the branch perch at night, and use the swings for play. So if you put the old toys in the new cage, it will bring familiarity to it and helps them warm up quicker. Don't know why mine are so different, but mine adjusted fine. Now they love their big, tall home.
