Posted July 22, 200619 yr I know my budgie Moon is a very freindly bird... she is just too nippy. I took all of her mirrors out. I have had her for about 2 years and at first she bit when she was very scared. Then I stopped training her for a while and now she is very nippy! I glove trained her to perch on my finger on command. She steps on, stands very tall, hops off, bites, then climbs higher in the cage. Some times she will step on and off with out biting. i havnt done anything to make her scared of my hands. I had her out yesterday for a bit to hand train her. I know she likes me, just not the hands. I will try to have her come out again for hand training. I am going to try to teach her that my hands are freindly with millet. This is my second day re-training her. But how do you guys deal nippy birds? Any techniques? Edited July 22, 200619 yr by Kristina
July 22, 200619 yr Since it is only the 2nd day of retraining I would ignore it completely. When she steps up with no nipping reward with a treat if she nips do it again until she doesn't nip. Pretty doesn't nip me but he will the kids because he knows they jerk back and react and he has the upper hand. I ignore him and he doesn't do it to me at all. But I reward the good and ignore the bad.
