Posted July 22, 200618 yr HUSBANDS!!! They mean well, but......sometimes you could just throttle them! Yesterday, while I was at work, my husband thought he'd do something nice. He put Trixie in with Bobby! Bobby has only been in quarantine a week!!! My husband said "It was only very quickly!! I took Trixie back out after a minute!".....you wanna know the silly thing??? My husband will look at the birds, & listen as my daughter & I ramble on for ages about them, but rarely shows any interest in them. When I'm gone & I can't yell at him, THAT'S when he shows an interest!!!! Go figure!!! Now that the damage has been done, I don't think I can separate them. They have become so attached in such a short time....Now they know the other one exists. Beforehand, they could hear each other, but didn't know that another bird was so close! When I separate them, Trixie goes NUTS! Bobby keeps squawking, & flying around the cage, & Trixie tries to eat her way out of the cage! (She won't eat vegies, but she'll attempt to eat her cage!???) We live in an open plan house, so I had the birds in separate cages, & as far away as possible - but not behind closed doors. If Bobby was out of the cage, he could fly around, but not find Trixie. Now he knows she's there..... Soooo....anyway....apart from closely monitoring them, I'm not sure what else I can do? Any suggestions??? Here are some photo's I took this morning......I couldn't resist!! They couldn't keep their beaks off each other!! Trixie looks like a disheveled after a hot 'n heavy time!! I think Trixe is a little excited.....poor Bobby! I feel so bad having them together so quick...but things were taken out of my control.... But they do love each other, so that's a positive.... July 22, 200618 yr Awww, it's lucky you love Mr Maxmillian, isn't it? At least he was thoughtful - misplaced thoughfulness, but thoughtful. The only thing you can do now is monitor both birds health - 99% of the time you get a perfectly healthy bird, so probably no harm done. Now, sit Mr Max down, and discuss why quarantine is important, how you didn't marry him for his brains, and he's not paid to think They do seem to enjoy each other, just watch when they are caged together. I would pop their cages next to each other and cage seperately for a couple of days, and just make sure they really do get on. Rearrange the cage you are putting them in together, so the original occupant doesn't become territorial
July 22, 200618 yr I know that I'm going to get in trouble here but time to be honest. I'm **** at quarantine. Just doesn't end up happening. I know all the reasons why, so I'm not going to even try to justify my silliness. Now...as for hubby, mine would do the same thing and if it wasn't him it would be one of the boys. Just monitor and as Lin said 99% of the time it's fine. They look so sweet together. There's no way you could break up the romance now.
July 22, 200618 yr Well you know the drill right everyone has said the right things (Laughing out loud) Lin you are funny. Anyways, they have bonded fast. Pretty didn't start preening Merlin until after a month or so. Cute cute..more pics please
July 22, 200618 yr They look like the best of buddies already so that's great! I know that the male in my household would have done the same thing!
July 22, 200618 yr OMG!!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE TOGETHER!!!!! I love Bobby, possibly the cutest baby ive ever seen! Kirby
July 22, 200618 yr Thank you all for your help! Lin....that's funny! You had me laughing out loud....too funny! Yes, I will definitely tell hubby that he is not paid to THINK! He had never even HELD any of the birds before he decided to move Trixie into Bobby's cage....ggggrrrr..... I have taken your advice & moved their cages together, & they are separated whenever I leave the house, & overnight. When I am home, they are together & they LOVE it. When I separate them, they sleep as close to the other cage as possible. It is way too cute! Kirby...I think Bobby has the cutest, little baby face too! He is such a sweetheart too. He has never attempted to bite me or my daughter. When he flies away now, he will ALWAYS come back immediately to wherever Trixie is. For now, they are easy to catch as Trixie has her wings clipped. Once she's molted & her flight feathers grow back, she will fly free like Bobby. Then we'll see how hard they are to catch!!?? I'm so glad you all liked the photo's! Karen, comimg from you, that's a big compliment! I LOVE all your photo's too...& am forever oohing & aahhhing over them! I got a little trigger happy when I took the photo's yesterday....so here's the others. I hope you like them! Cheers, Tracey
July 23, 200618 yr No, you honestly do! They are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE TOGETHER!!!! I loveeeeeee the picture of them both shown with full bodies in the cam! To see their gorgeous tails, or shall i say lack of (Laughing out loud) Kirby
July 23, 200618 yr No, you honestly do! They are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE TOGETHER!!!! I loveeeeeee the picture of them both shown with full bodies in the cam! To see their gorgeous tails, or shall i say lack of (Laughing out loud) Kirby Hehehe...thanks Kirby! Poor Trixie lost her tail feathers when she was caught in the aviary by the breeder when we first got her. They are slowly growing back....so to me, Bobby looks like he's got gorgeous long tail feathers, 'cause we are used to seeing Trixie with NONE! :(Laughing out loud):
July 24, 200618 yr okay...I have an update! While talking to my 'wonderful' (?) husband last night, he thought he'd come clean. He DID NOT put Trixie in Bobby's cage the other day, like he said. He just wanted to see if I'd believe him, & then wait to see if I would put them together! (Which I did!!)... I tried to separate them last night for bed, but after covering the cages & then putting myself to bed, I could hear chirping/squawking, & banging around in the cages. I had to put them together! They can't bear to be apart!! It's so sweet.....When Bobby flies away, he ALWAYS comes back to Trixie, no matter where she is. So....after all that...I was the one who put them together first. Now I can't blame my husband...well....I still will...but...gggrrr...I was so annoyed with him last night, but the birds are happy! HUSBANDS!!! ggggrrrr......it's lucky I love him! ...sometimes! Cheers, Tracey
