Introducing Citronella

:fear Citronella is about 9 months old and belongs to the daughter of my avian vet. The family is on vacation and Citronella is staying at the clinic so I went to visit her. She was scared of me but would step up but I didn't want to take her out as she might fly on top of the 2 ferrets cage who were mighty interested in us. Sorry for the smallness of the pictures, had to resize them twice as per the rules.

Here's her sister, Lemon.

Her brother, Sunshine,

And parents, Star and Comet,

Citronella apparently has a wild and independent streak, just like her father Comet. Her mother, Star, is in an avian rescue situation to be adopted by a one bird only family but maybe she would get along with another female away from Comet's influence. Old Comet (age 11) still flies madly around and bothers everybody except my lovebirds.

:ausb: My goodness, those pictures look huge but I just checked Photobucked again and they read 144 x 108 so I really don't get it at all. Maybe something isn't working properly (?like me)

They are quite a nice looking family. Comet looks great for 11, you must really take care of him that he is still active enough to father babies. Thanks for posting them!

oh Pheobe they are simply gorgeous, thanks for posting

:fear Thanks Rainbow, and Comet would like to FATHER more babies, he is the ultimate caregiver, ever! I really feel that the rescue society from which I got him had his age incorrect, they didn't know his sex, background or ANYTHING! , so why would they know his age? I knew immediately he was a male but aside from his feet looking a little arthritic at times, I really doubt he is 11, he is just TOO active, but then maybe he is 11? We will never now, but we should all enjoy life to the extent that he does! :D

:) Thanks Lovey, interesting that these would all be pieds...................

Echo, from the first clutch, is the spitting image of Star.

Here's him and Lemon together.

Gorgeous bubs. I was going to say how interesting that they all took after dad considering he is recessive. Mom must have been split for it. Citronella is really striking! And Lemon is very interesting looking. Hardly a wing marking. Do you know exactly what her mutation is?

:) Sorry Shawna, am not into genetics, all I know is that Comet is your basic white and turquoise pied and Star is your average (well prettier than average), green budgie with a yellow head. :fear

:) And I still believe OLD Comet, daredevil flyer and busybody, is responsible for all and any egg activity in my household! :fear He currently is bugging Buddy, Coco ,Happy and Monty with an occasional trip to Rosey and Jodie. :D

Life gets exciting at your place "Egg Castle"..................Your babies turned out so beautifully too....they are such a lovely family. Despite your not providing them with a nesting box.....mean mummy :fear

:) Love your new signature Bubbles! :) I did provide them with a brand new nest box that they totally ignored, it is gathering dust in my spare room! I never would have let them breed to fruition but did that on the advice of a retired budgie breeder that said let them go to it. She, like myself, never figured that the eggs would hatch, but hello, they did, and with a great deal of effort on behalf of my landlord and myself keeping everything really clean and cuddling them as they grew older, all went well and all the people they went to are so happy! :fear I have been asked to breed some more but you know what will freeze over before that ever happens. :D:

:fear Believe me, I never wanted to breed them, just went along with the advice I was given, and hey, I am now a onetime successful breeder of healthy, tame, budgies! That's why my avian vet wanted one, she knew they were in excellent health and free of any disease. :)

I think its great that you get to see your babies into the future like this....must make you proud. :D

:fear Yes, I am very happy that friends got them and I can see them and get updates, but, as you know, I have mostly rescue birds here and it was never my intention to add to the problem, just following the advice of experienced people and it backfired to the amazement of all concerned. Still, it was a rewarding experience, my landlord just loved all the babies although they caused me a lot of stress and as I am a "clean freak", it was very tiring keeping everybody clean and dry and I was constantly worried but Old Comet was the BEST, he took care of everybody and I can still see him flipping those babies onto their backs to be fed. :) Still think he was at the root of all of this, wanted to keep himself an endless supply of companions, other than sitting on the eggs, Star was not really involved with the kids other than feeding them a bit, old Comet did EVERYTHING. :D

Yep Cheeta is right in easy terms Star and Comet where both carrying the pied gene :P and the pied gene I like the YF's (Laughing out loud)... Just like blue eyes both parents need to carry the blue eyed gene for blue eye kids.

:ausb: Thanks everybody, not knowing anything about genetics, I was really surprised at the variety of colorings, I thought Star's green and basic "budgie" look would take precedence. Sunshine is apparently quite the little talker, and we all thought Lemon was a boy for the longest time but we have more or less now established she is a girl. She and Echo (EXTREMELY TAME AND TALKATIVE) shared a cage until a couple of months ago but them Lemon started picking on Echo so they now have separate cages but do get supervised visits out together. :rip:
