Posted July 17, 200618 yr I have recently built a new outdoors aviary and was a bit concerned about putting my zebra finches and budgies in together, can I expect a happy household or an all out war??
July 17, 200618 yr I have huge aviaries....fully planted out and 30ft long by 10ft by 8ft high and I wouldnt put finches in with my budgies...just going from what you read and hear about mixed aviaries and what has been discovered by reading forum members experiences. Others may be able to help, but that is just my opinion. Cheers karen
July 17, 200618 yr I am going to second that one Karen they say don't ever mix breeds (some have been successful) but overall in general it is not advised. Budgies can be too aggressive for many birds especially if you have a big aviary and decide to colony breed.
July 17, 200618 yr Have to agree - I have both species, and you can't mix them. You can pop canaires in with finches, as long as you aren't breeding the canaries - you won't have any choice about breeding your finches, they will do it whether you want them to or not!
August 4, 200618 yr Apparently bully budgie will chomp the finches feet off so probably not suggested. I have my babies in seperate cages and in seperate rooms Edited August 4, 200618 yr by Freeman
August 7, 200618 yr My male budgies left the zebs alone but the females used to carry the zubs around by the feathers on their backs. Amusing to watch from my point of view - not from the poor finches'. Needless to say the zebs were removed and placed into a different cage - which they all escaped from 3 weeks later!! Someone forgot to close the door all the way.
