Posted July 17, 200619 yr My friend has two budgies that she wants to breed but she doesn't know the gender of them. She's pretty sure the olive one is a male but she's not sure about the voilet one. Here are some pictures: :ausb:
July 17, 200619 yr The olive one looks male to me (and what a handsome boy he is too ).......and the other looks like an out of breeding condition female to me. :ausb: Both lovely birds ............
July 17, 200619 yr I argree Bubbles. But please teel your friend to learn all she can about breeding first, knowing how to tell the genders of budgies would be one of the basic first steps in budgie breeding. Can s/he get on to this site? If so urge her/him to join and ask heaps of questions. Check out books from your library, they give a small bit of info into breeding also.
July 17, 200619 yr Absolutely Nerwen! Ask her to have a look at the posts of all the things that can go wrong - and when she is sure she can cope with all these issues, then have a go at breeding :ausb: Take it from me, it is terrifying when something bad happens - and the security of having all these clever clogs on here to help out and calm you down is priceless
July 17, 200619 yr I second that one learn the basics and then decided to go on. We can only suggest it and hope others follow our lead. :ausb:
July 18, 200619 yr Thanks guys. I'll try to convince her to join, although she said she doesn't want to create another account of anything, as she has joined alot of things and can't really remember all her usernames ad passwords. I'll talk to her. I've already told her how great it is, but she was still unsure. Also, how long do you think she should wait until she puts the nesting box in. According to her, the budgies are the same age (or so they told her at the pet shop, the violet one maybe one or two months older) and they are nearly 1 year old.
July 18, 200619 yr If it were me, I'd wait another 6 months. The violet one is female, the green I can't tell. In the picture towards the bottom where he is on the hand with the seeds, the cere looks awfully light. The rest look pink, and his mutation will not have a pink cere in the male. Is there any way you could get another shot of him?
