Posted July 15, 200618 yr Hi All, I went to a great bird place today (just to look, of course!!!! ) & came out with a beautiful baby boy. I just had to show you all.....(please tell me it's a boy! That's what the man told me!). I got Bobby home, got him out of the box & he took off. We were in the bathroom, so he couldn't go far. When I caught him, he didn't even try to bite me! The man told me that the best way to get him used to me was to hold him from the moment I get home. Hold him to my stomach/chest & just run my hand continually down his back. As he climbs up, keep stroking him. I did that, & he calmed down so nicely. He even burrowed his head into the palm of my hand & went to sleep! I had to wake him, 'cause he was so still I thought something bad had happened!! He flew off twice, & I had to catch him. He didn't want to be caught, but was pretty easy. When he landed, I just grabbed him gently & he was fine. He is beautiful, & am hoping from the bad photo's I've taken, someone might be able to tell me what he is. I didn't buy him based on colour....I really wanted a gentle, playful bird. When the man caught him, he calmed down quickly with the 'stroking' technique...so thought he was a good pick! Thanks for taking the time to look!! Cheers, Tracey :(Laughing out loud):
July 15, 200618 yr He's adorable, but I would think so because he looks just like my Mac, whom I bought home only a week ago. He even does the same 'tilt the head to the side' thing. Mac, and I would guess Bobby too, is a cobalt recessive pied. And I agree with the man, I think he's a boy, (not that I've had much experience ) but his cere is very pink and that's suposed to mean male. Mac's cere looks the same and the man where I got him said male too. Edited July 15, 200618 yr by Mackenzie_b
July 15, 200618 yr What a gorgeous budgie. I would have guessed cinammon violet recessive - the markings look brown on my monitor. And he looks very violet too. But whatever, he is absolutely gorgeous!!!!
July 15, 200618 yr gorgeous, I say boy I don't see cinnamon at all, his marking on the wings looks like Pretty's color a washed out black. Here is a good site for taming too www.budgietalk.com
July 15, 200618 yr I agree with you on the violet Shawna but I don't see any brown markings. Max Bobby sounds a treat and I'm sure he will be a great little man with they way he is happy iwth hands already.

Maybe my eyes are just getting old. Agh!!
July 15, 200618 yr I agree with Shawna.... About the brown wings.... But possibly becuase there is so few 'black' markings, the white underneath turns them lighter? hes stunning! I love him Kirby Edited July 15, 200618 yr by Nerwen
July 15, 200618 yr Aww shucks guys! Thanks! I think he's just gorgeous....isn't it funny how you go out looking for a bird with a colour in mind, & come out with something completely different? It was like someone was sitting on my shoulder, telling me to pick Bobby.....who was I to argue?? :(Laughing out loud): His colours aren't in perfect symmetry, it's like his black splotches are all hodge podge over the place....but his temperament won me over. Sometimes you just have to go with the 'gut', & not go for the prettiest one in the bunch. The colour on his wings are a washed out black, like Lovey said....rather than a cinnamon. It is night time here at the moment, & his cage is covered. I will wait til morning & take another picture in front of a window with natural light. Hopefully that will give you a true indication of his colour. Thank you all for replying. My 10 year old daughter loves to read what you have to say too....she is proud as punch of our babies, & loves to read how other people love them too. Cheers Tracey
July 15, 200618 yr awww what a cutie pie!!! love the expression on his face!! okay, here're my thoughts... Nerwen, please correct me here.. hehehe.. I don't think it's a violet, but rather a cobalt since the lighting may have changed it a little. Reason I said that because I took some pics of Goofy who is a 'lighter' cobalt, but in some of his pics with artificial lighting it made him look very violet!! And also I thought violet suppose to have dark purple cheek patches? Bobby's aren't that dark.. Secondly.. is Bobby is Dutch pied?? (I'm trying to distinguish betweenthe dutch and the recessive pied).. Since Bobby's got colours around the cheek area would that still make him a recessive pied or would he be a Dutch pied? I know the wing patterns says recessive, but what about the body colour around the cheek??

And also I thought violet suppose to have dark purple cheek patches? Bobby's aren't that dark.. You could be right, his cheek patches are small so it's a bit hard to tell. I just know hard hard it is to get a violet colour to show in a picture. Secondly.. is Bobby is Dutch pied?? (I'm trying to distinguish betweenthe dutch and the recessive pied).. Since Bobby's got colours around the cheek area would that still make him a recessive pied or would he be a Dutch pied? I know the wing patterns says recessive, but what about the body colour around the cheek?? I don't see a bit of colour around the neck?? but that just might be me. Dutch pied will have a fuller pattern on the wings, almost like a normal rather than the dots and spots like Bobby here. About the cinnamon: I think what you guys are mistaking for cinnamon is the baby dullness in the feathers. Cinnamons are very clearly brown in colour.
July 16, 200618 yr Nerwen if you look in the second picture you can see right behind the bars a patch of blue that is what I think she means, I saw it but didn't comment on it. I was thinking double factor pied possibly.
July 16, 200618 yr I had a closer look today, & the colours in the picture are pretty true to what his colour is. He is a darker blue on his back, just under the tips of his wings & he is lighter on the chest. He has blue cheeks as well, almost like a dash of blush in a blue colour! The colour I think of when I see him is like a baby powder blue on his chest, & a darker blue on his back. I am constantly amazed by how much everyone knows here! I get so confused with all the different colour combinations......thanks for your help! Cheers, Tracey
July 16, 200618 yr I tried to get some more pics this morning, to try to get some better 'colours'. These were taken in natural light, near a window with no flash. I hope you can see these a bit better.... Thanks all, for your time! Cheers, Tracey
July 16, 200618 yr Hes SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly, i think this babies got the cutest face ive ever seen in any budgies, and ive bred before! (Laughing out loud). His such a lil darling! He looks fresh out of the nest to! Like 5.5 weeks old, or just turned 6 weeks few days ago... sooo cute and baby lookin! Kirby
July 16, 200618 yr Awww...shucks Kirby! That's so nice to say.....but ya know, he's seems to have the best personality too. We only got him yesterday, but already today he has sat on my hand & eaten some seed. I can get him out of the cage easily. He doesn't spook easily when he sees my hand. He just has trouble stepping up. It's like he doesn't really know what to do.....but I'm sure he'll learn pretty quick! Tracey
July 16, 200618 yr ahh I see the spots your talking about now Cheeta It's possible but something tells me recessive is right for this fellow. Edited July 16, 200618 yr by Nerwen
July 16, 200618 yr Aarrrggghhhhhh... now I'm more confuse than ever with the Dutch pied.. So this guy would fit the Recessive pied outfit then?
July 16, 200618 yr Well, now I'm totally bamboozled! What makes a 'Recessive Pied', & what is a Dutch pied?
July 16, 200618 yr (Laughing out loud) Yes Cheeta. Max A dutch pied is one sort of dominant pied you can get. recessive pied have spotted/ mismatched markings on the wings, no iris ring when older, body colour only on the belly and rump area. Also a bright orange beak. The males of recessive pieds do not change to the deep blue when older.
July 16, 200618 yr Thanks for that Nerwen! You must have a ton of patience in describing mutations over & over again for idiots like me! Cheers, Tracey
July 17, 200618 yr okay, who's got a picture of a Duutch pied? I can find info online, but no for definite sure pics of one.
