hi guys and girls.

 

my grey budgie has had a diorrea of some sort so i wormed her and treated he with anti-biotics. the diorrea hes now cleard up but she has lost lots of weight and is panting and coughing. i have now put her in a icolated cadge away from the other birds with plenty of food and water. she hasnt even got enough energy or balance to stand on the perches and has resorted sitting and sleaping in her food bowl.

how long have you given anti-biotics? did you check that worming and the med could be used together??

 

If she is unable to stand without help now I think calling your avain vet is the best bet.

 

What do you mean by coughing? is there any seed or other stuff being brought up with the coughing?

i wormed her 2 weeks ago so there wouldnt be any clash with the medicens and when she coughs she bobs her head up and down but nothing comes up. she also has hardly anything in her crop.

sounds like you need to see an avian vet asap so they can medicate her with what she really needs to help her out. Just a suggestion for next time don't medicate unless you know what is really wrong that is more dangerous for the bird then the sickness itself. Please keep us updated on her.

What antibiotics are you using? Please remember that antibiotics also get rid of GOOD bacteria in addition to the bad. They should ONLY be used when prescribed by an avian vet after your bird has been properly diagnosed! There are different types of infections and if your bird has a fungal infection (such as yeast) you've just cleared the way for it to run rampant. And again, antibiotics can harm your budgie if they aren't given properly or at the appropriate time.

 

I suggest making an appointment with your avian vet and in the meantime, give your budgie a dab of plain yogurt to try and get the level of good bacteria back up.
