The budgies she liked were ones she said I should breed with good quality normals to try and get my show quality birds. There is a grey spangle boy I got from Paul29 that she says to breed with zzzz013.jpg

A dominant pied hen I have (Salsa )xz055x-1.jpgxx-x254x.jpg

Another dominant pied grey male (Titan) xx-x261-2.jpg

His sister Zena xx-x270x.jpg

and Goliath. zzzz038.jpg

Another hen I call Bunny ...but Bunny has been egg eating and I don't trust her with a clutch.

Radar if paired to a larger hen. radar1.jpg

This hen ( ELLY ) xz064x-1.jpgxx-x259x.jpg

I love that picture of Zena that is cute. Did she tell you why these birds has the right stuff? I can see they look like show quality to me because they look like the show birds. But did she tell you specifics. Sorry so many questions this interests me not that I want to show but I love to learn :D

by the way your posts to the topic just hit a little over 1000 and there are 8,800 plus views WOW huh :(

It seems to be all about size and type and most of these birds were bred by show breeders anyway. Plus choosing the exact right bird to breed to, to improve certain aspects. I will learn more when I join the Budgerigar Club. Apparently I need to be less inclined to breed with coloured birds as I need to have a good stock of normals to breed to and I havent any good normals right now. Good excuse to shop for larger normal budgies with Budgie club members. First meeting tomorrow night.

The size of the blog is looking scary :D:(

just another excuse to buy more budgies :hap: :( I am excited for you and look forward to learning through your posts :D

Some show breeders are culling their birds shortly and have my phone number for some birds to sell me. Obviously breeding for show is a long process with so much knowledge to soak up along the way and scarier than that is ....I must learn genetics better than I have up until now.

you are taking a good first step, I am sure you will learn TONS through the club for sure. Now bedtime I believe it is like 3 AM over there

am I right in assuming all that aren't lutino or DF Spangles will be golden faces ? May have a lutino in here and DF Spangles. The eldest baby has the two middle tailfeathers clear so must be spangle ?

Edited by Bubbles

Don't know the goldenface answer BUT I can't wait to see the babies as they feather up more.

Rocket was Diesel's family member yes? He looks similar I remember he is the one that got out on accident during the move.

Just got back from my first Budgerigar Club meeting. It went for 3 hours. A very large club. They held a bench show with dozens of budgies brought in by members....judged and presented awards at the end of the night. There was a lecture on what they look for in judging budgerigars....with real examples and literature. I learnt that one of the most valuable budgies to have in your aviary is an olive like Radar, due to his very versatile dark factor that can be so useful in breeding dark greens, blues and violets. They have a great library of books and video for free borrowing and also a shop to buy birdie requirements and medicines at much cheaper prices than pet shops and vets. I enjoyed my first evening there and I am now a fully paid up member of this club. This Sunday I get to pick from some show birds a member is cullling from his aviary.

Rocket carries the ino gene and texas clearbody is an ino recessive type gene or something isnt it, Lovey ? So maybe we get a texas clearbody do you think ?

yes that means spangle if the middle two tailfeathers are turning out clear. :)

I am so glad you have an excellent time and I can't wait to learn from you about the show budgies. Now you need more Raders :)

Normal - sex-linked (x-chromosome), dominant to Clearbody - sex-linked, dominant to

Ino - sex-linked recessive. http://www.geocities.com/budgie-place/p_co....html#clearbody

The meeting is in Rivervale Paul close to Belmont. There would have been forty at the meeting and thats probably only half the members :)

Clearbody is a Par Ino gene so if a baby get one Ino gene and another Clearbody gene they look like a Clearbody.

Hope you had fun at the meeting.
