October 5, 200618 yr ((hugs)) that is horrible I hope is is rip little one Flash is so darn cute my goodness Karen, those puppies are so adorable. What a wonderful letter from the new parents.
October 5, 200618 yr Oh Karen, I'm so sorry about that. it is not very nice at all when awful things like that happen.... but I Guess birds know best when it comes to 'faulty' babies.. {{{Hugs}}} You did a great job while the little one was here with you. And oh my, isn't that Flash soooo cute!! But all the puppies are just simply gorgeous as well.. and you know that I just love them all!!!!
October 5, 200618 yr Author Was that the sweet little YF2 spangle baby? Yes. Also was opaline and dilute in colour. It isnt the baby that I posted the pictures of earlier that Kirby asked me to name Mars. I will miss him.
October 6, 200618 yr Author I'm so sorry to hear that. It's very upsetting when things out of your control happen. It boils down to birds personalities I suppose. These were birds in a breeder cage (large). I was seeing good things for this little bird as he had turned a corner and was going to make it. ******************************************************************** Change of subject.............. I called into two petshops today...just browsing. But I guess I am starting to be an advocate for the budgies any time that I see them in a petshop in "wrong" conditions. I'm afraid I try to educate the staff and make the birds conditions better for them wherever I can. Todays petshop had some pretty cinnamon dominant pied budgies amongst others. They were advertised as babies but were at least five months old, breeding condition females mostly. There was no seed dish in sight. They had a dish with GRIT and a dish with dry egg and biscuit in it. I asked the shop assistant (who seemed to be the manager as she was older ) why there was no seed in the cage for the birds. She replied that as they were babies, they didnt need seed, just egg and biscuit. I informed her that these budgies weren't babies and that they did indeed need seed regardless of babies or not, and fresh vegies (but we won't go into the vegie debate here and now). She said how do YOU know they are not babies ? I educated her right there and then. I also told her she didn't need to put grit in their cage either as it was meant for birds that didn't husk their seeds. She was amazed by what I was telling her. She siad "how do you know all this ? " and I told her I had many budgies and learnt it all with help. She said she didn't know much about budgies at which point I told her....since she had books in the shop on budgies, she should do some reading. It would help the birds and herself. There was more, but I keep trying when I see things could be better for the birds. A petshop last night needed more perches and something for the budgie to do. The only budgie seemed "stir crazy" ............my suggestions for toys to help 1. sell the budgie by people watching its antics and 2. to help sell the toys to the people who buy birds...........were listened to but I have no high hopes. I have said the same in this petshop before. You only ever get to speak to the "underlings" that get paid to watch the shop....never the "powers that be".........
October 6, 200618 yr Yay good on you for doing that for the birds, even getting through to one person- you never know she might learn a bit!!!! BUT petshops should have someone on site that knows what they are doing or make sure staff are fully aware of All the animals requirements
October 6, 200618 yr good for you know you have to do a follow-up in 2 weeks and see if they changed!
October 6, 200618 yr Author good for you know you have to do a follow-up in 2 weeks and see if they changed! I have found a direct way of contacting the owner of this petshop ( who turns out to be a neighbour ) and will be speaking with her on the weekend. I have made up a budgie care sheet she can photocopy and use as a handout for all potential budgie customers. Here's hoping ************************************************************************** On another topic Oscar found his new home today and has gone to live with a young couple and two children under 7 yrs. His new name I believe will be Alfred We have Charlie left to home and Maggie stays with us.
October 6, 200618 yr Oh my Oscar is gone.. I don't get Oscar cuddles anymore... well at least he's now at his new home. All the best to both him and the new family> I'll miss that little one..
October 7, 200618 yr Author Oscar will be in his element....he has another siamese cat to torment at his new house :hap: just like he did here with Ken's cat Orlando. Charlie is still at home with our pup Maggie. It is SO, SO quiet here now with most of the "family" gone to new homes :hap: This little baby budgie fledged today ....far too early. It was met on the ground of the aviary by a few inquisitive quails so I rescued it and put it back in the nesting box.
October 7, 200618 yr Author Charlie has found his new forever home today but we get to keep him for another week while they are away on holidays. So when Charlie leaves in a weeks time we have only our pup Maggie left at home and her mother Cricket. Maggie already knows her name and her special place with us. She's a real cuddlepot and she is SO much like her mother
October 8, 200618 yr Author Cinnamon fledged from the nest today as did the little violet baby with the greywings. A little too soon for one of them but I popped them back into the nest just the same as we have a cold night ahead. Cinnamon and friend... Edited October 8, 200618 yr by Bubbles
October 8, 200618 yr Author Cinnamon looks like a little bald eagle with that white head of her My thoughts exactly
October 8, 200618 yr Author Here is the last two pups from the litter of six Cavalier puppies. Eight and a half weeks old. Charlie who gets a new name and a new home next Saturday Maggie who we get to keep forever and not forgetting my Birman male cat Ruskie and Ken's lilac point siamese male cat Orlando Edited October 8, 200618 yr by Bubbles
October 9, 200618 yr Author A couple of new pairs are in breeding mode. They selected their own partners Here is Atlas DF dom pied and he is with Shez ....any ideas what they may produce? and we have Shiloh (texas clearbody) and she is with Swift's husband Rocket (seen here with Swift) Dark factor mauve boy (carries the ino gene) ....any ideas what they would have ? Swift is busy having recreational sex in the non breeding aviary with a grey opaline boy
October 9, 200618 yr Author ************************************************************ I think it's time to shut my budgie blog down and go back to separate topics
October 9, 200618 yr (Laughing out loud) with question on types of babies might be an idea. Shiloh and Rocket will have some cute ones If he is split Ino there is a chance of more Clearbodies.
October 9, 200618 yr Author A weird kind of pied spot has developed on the back of the head of Rocky and Bunty's violet blue baby. It is where some normal looking budgies have a pied spot and it does indeed have a spot showing but it is where the feathers or bars area would have black stripes if it was normal..... but the stripes in that area have formed a spot like a pied spot but it is in cinnamon feathers just in that area very weird....what do you think ? mum Dad Edited October 9, 200618 yr by Bubbles
October 9, 200618 yr why do you want to shut it down I love it No idea on why the spot is like that interesting? 50% chance of dominant pieds 50% chance of spangles if they are both split for normal then 50% chance
