August 19, 200618 yr Of cuase I remember melon :ausb: How cool to get more like her from a different pair :(Laughing out loud): If they are like Melon then they are girls and your Kiwi is split for opaline.
August 19, 200618 yr Author Forgot to mention, Goliath and Jade have five nice healthy babies and are raising one adopted baby too.
August 19, 200618 yr Author Swifts spangle fallow We have been discussing on this blog what this baby could possibly be...fallow or what. It seems the spangle in the "recipe" has confused the markings. I said I would ask a show breeder who specialises in fallows for her opinion. Here is her email......." Hi Karen. After inspecting your pictures and looking up a few books and letting it all tick around in my subconcious the best possibility I can come up with, in view of what Laureen tells me you have in varieties, I am inclined to think the chick is a Light green cinnamon opaline spangle texas clearbody. However this presumes the father is split for texas and opaline and cinnamon. I'd say it was a double factor spangle but the green rump doesn't fit. I'd say it was a Lacewing but the green rump doesn't fit. The eye is very bright red more like Ino or Lacewing then cinnamon but time will settle that as it will fade to deep plum by the first moult if cinnamon. At first moult the cinnamon markings should deepen and be more visible, again, if I am right !!! She may be somethingelse again! Anyway you will hopefully know if that combination of genes is possible, the cock can be /texopaline/cinnamon or /texcinn/opal or/opalcinn/tex. Also if the blue spangle is dad she is also /blue!! " ............so that is an experts opinion and we shall probably have to wait and see what develops with this baby. Maybe I have come up with a new breed of budgie ?! Edited August 19, 200618 yr by Bubbles
August 19, 200618 yr wow :(Laughing out loud): I wonder why she can up with the texas clearbody? rather than a recessive pied which the spotty markings on the wings would seem to lead too.
August 19, 200618 yr Author Nothing really seems to fit this bird....it is a type that for now seems to fall between the descriptive cracks. I do know that some show budgie breeders seem to describe their bird types a little differently to the way we do on this forum. I am still confused and have no answers that make sense
August 19, 200618 yr Whatever it may be it is just gorgeous!! Pssst.... where are the pics of Butter & Chucky's baby???
August 19, 200618 yr Author Whatever it may be it is just gorgeous!! Pssst.... where are the pics of Butter & Chucky's baby??? The weather was disgusting...too rainy and windy and darkish for good photos. Tomorrow hopefully wow I wonder why she can up with the texas clearbody? rather than a recessive pied which the spotty markings on the wings would seem to lead too. Texas clearbody?....nah : Recessive pied ....nah : Red eyes ....yes ! Who knows ? Maybe new mutation ?
August 19, 200618 yr acutally something that bugged me I thought the red eye from a cinnamon gene weaked before the chick was even out of the box?? But she said to wait for the eye to fade stil.
August 20, 200618 yr Author Whatever it may be it is just gorgeous!! Pssst.... where are the pics of Butter & Chucky's baby??? Just for you Sherrie Butter and Chuckys baby (they have another baby in with Jade and Goliaths hatchlings too )....but is a dominant pied with yellow and blue I think. I will try for photos later but today is overcast and rainy and not a good day for photos. Remember Melon Nerwen ? Well we have at least two baby budgies in a nest belonging to Honey and Kiwi that are colouring up just like Melon, or so it seems so far. Very pretty. Kiwi Honey melon Here they are Jenni.....does this mean kiwi is split for opaline ? I think so First two eldest next two youngest baby Here is a real pretty violet baby. Is from this pair but raised by Swift and Rocket Violet baby Shiloh Lucifer and baby Edited August 20, 200618 yr by Bubbles

August 20, 200618 yr Author SQUEALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want them all. I was near to fainting at the first two like melon and then you showed me the violet What a looker. *faints at cutness* The Melon Look alikes seems to be times 4....do you think ? The violet baby is to die for !! She is a prettier vioiet than I can show on a photo. Is it possible that Lucifer and Shilohs baby is a texas clear body too ? Edited August 20, 200618 yr by Bubbles
August 20, 200618 yr yes it's possible becuase he can be carrying the gene or even a normal ino gene which can get you a baby like mum. as to the melon look alikes yes I think 4 of them are just like her, i love the blue on the youngest too
August 20, 200618 yr Author The blue baby also is so pretty. I have some more baby photos to post tonight as well. Managed to take some today as the weather was nicer, but I also had to work the weekend. Good thing work is just out my back door. Ken's java finches are happy enough that one has a nest with one egg so far . The Java has made an interesting nest....it has created a tunnel in the nesting material so the eggs are at the very bottom of the box through a tunnel of about 4 inches in the nesting material. He has a pair of canaries sitting on eggs too in the privit hedge where Frank the frog used to sit. We have found Frank in a log on the back wall of the aviary. We should have Kens aviary split up for the budgies by the weekend (Kens birthday on Saturday ). A lot of budgies have been shifted from the main aviary ready for thier move. All Kens birds are now healthy and thinking about breeding sometime soon. I MUST have that violet baby. Gorgeous. I'm getting very anxious to put up my first pair. Oh winter hurry up and get here! Did I just say that? I hate winter. Keep the news and photos coming!!!!!!
August 21, 200618 yr Author This little baby budgie decided today was a good day to fledge, I found it walking around exploring, head bobbing up and down, neck outstretched as it peered here and there. looking, looking.....hippety hopping. But I decided that since it had only half the feathers it should have ...it was going back in the nesting box. My guess is it fell out while stretching out of the nesting box hole for a feed from Mum or Dad. Funny little tyke...brave as, but not quite ready yet for its first day out. On another note, we have divided up two areas in Ken's aviary ready for the move for the budgies. Photos over the weekend. And Frank the bullfrog has taken up residence in a hollow log hung from the back wall of the aviary. Funny thing is, so has a pair of Java finches. They are busy building a nest in the middle of the hollow log just about 16 inches away from Frank. Edited August 21, 200618 yr by Bubbles
