I will try and post pikkies of Amaras babies all together in one posting when the weather gets nicer. Remember Crystal ? She thought today was a good day to become "a woman" and was husband and house hunting :) Little TART !! She would only be about 12 weeks of age. Must be in the water !! :)

I caught her and put her in the jail cage. Jail is getting crowded. Full of young females wanting to grow up too soon. I am hounding Ken to finish the first stage of the aviary mods so they can have more space.

:P Little tart!!! hehe

How many of Amara's babies survived?? It looks like a couple of DF spangles from her - am I right??

You should call those two early fledgers Bourke & Wills or James and Cook(ie) :)

:)

From memory I think Amara had four babies survive. I will check. None of the yellow ones are Amaras...they are Curry and lailas babies or swifts. I tried to put words next to the photos but it wouldnt let me add any more. Something about my limit on photos came up. :D

Right now Cosmo, I seem to mostly breed boys. A breeder I know says its seasonal and weather plays a part. Maybe because I have bred budgies through the colder part of the year. I couldn't wait for Ken to finish stage one of the new aviary modifications....so when he went out today I did it myself. I now have a section partitioned off at the front of the aviary with door, perches, swings, toys and food bowls. It will be the future juveniles cage. But right now, all the "jail birds" moved into it late this afternoon. They were having a ball in there ! Flying and playing and loving the new space. This section will be the smaller of the future four areas of the aviary's divisions. It measures about 9 feet by 4 feet and around 7 feet tall. I will get photos tomorrow. Tomorrow brings the aviary modifications to stage 2. I have shamed Ken into proving he can outdo me and get the next stage done. :glare:

Most of my budgies have been moved out of the main large aviary they were in. There is only about 8 budgies left in the big aviary as those ones finish with their breeding and baby budgie raising. Most of the budgies are in a new section of the aviary and will be further housed in the stage 2 section as Ken completes it over the next few days. All of the newish fledged baby budgies have been housed together in one cage, so I can watch them for awhile and make sure they are doing well. There is more than 22 babies.

As with Zebra I am keeping a close eye on some of my adult budgies, as I found also (when I caught them to move them ) that some are definitely a bit fat. So, we will change the seed and increase the vegies again to help the fatties lose some puddins. I will take some photos of the new aviary areas over the weekend. Also new photos of some babies that havent been seen yet.

I am moving all my birds from the aviary on the right to the aviary on the left which is L-shaped. The avairy on the left is being divided into 4 areas, still with a lot of "happy flying space" for budgies.

Very cool :P I can't wait to see the babies

We have two new sections completed in the new budgie aviary now. Just landscaping inside to do and a roofing sheet or two and the budgies can move into their new homes. Stage 3 and four to go. We do the avairy modifications together, so it gets done faster and the right way  Ken's birthday tomorrow so I might let him rest

Awesome - Ken's a virgo (that makes life fun) I am one too and so is Tim he had his birthday on the 23rd of this month. Happy Birthday Ken...pics soon please ;)

Thankyou for Kens Birthday wishes ladies. :) I will show him later when we relax a bit more. We have had major dramas here today with Cricket our cavalier getting seriously ill. She started tremors, convulsions and high temperatures and couldnt walk. We raced her to the vets where she was made to vomit, put on a drip, and tested for a few things. They thought she had been either poisoned or had an internal infection. Then that vet was due to close (Sunday) and urged us to drive her quickly to another emergency vet 40 mins away....they feared she might likely die if not urgently treated and that leaving her with them meant there wasnt to be anyone at their vet surgery to care for her after hours also. So we sped off to the next vets with her still attached to a drip. That vet too were so concerned that she was near deaths door from whatever....but worked out it wasnt poison. She had a series of tests and xrays and we waited. End result was a severe lack of calcium due to size and number of pups, causing her body to shut down. She is still at the vets and we may get her back tomorrow if all is well. However....she can no longer feed her pups. We have to. First attempts at bottle feeding havent been successful as yet and we hope as they get hungrier they may take the formula better than they have been. We have to feed every 2 hours. ;) Talk about stressful !!

Thanks Bea. We are hoping that as the puppies get hungrier they will suck more on the bottles. They know the difference between a bottle and teat and their mother. They spit out the bottle teat and search for their Mum. We will have a sleepless night I guess. :( Puppies at 2 and a bit weeks are quite large...each weighing in at 800grams :(

Have they opened their eyes now?

Karen and Ken if anyone can do it you two can!! I will keep both of you, Cricket and the puppies in my thoughts and prayers.

Yes, Bea...they opened their eyes two days ago :( they are starting to stand shakily on their legs.

Thanks Elly :D We have just managed to get a very small amount of milk into the pups and they are sleeping for now.

Well through the exhaustion and after you get them feeding you will have to take a picture of them feeding. You know what to watch for they are not right. Keep on eye on the weakess one if you have one that is the ones that go down hill fast. Good vibes being sent!

Oh Karen - I am sorry to hear about Cricket - I hope she makes a speedy recovery.

Best of luck feeding the pups! - they will take to it soon enough - natural instinct will take over and they wont starve themselves. :(

Not too much sleep last night for Ken and I with puppies. They still arent keen on artificial feeding and fight it every step of the way. Only one pup sucks on the bottle properly (the first born boy Oscar). Cricket is still at the vets and may come home later today but we have to keep her separated from the pups.

On a side note, I thought you may enjoy a funny a friend sent me re fresh greens for her birds......

You definitely dont want to feed these greens to your budgies !!

Cricket is home from the vets. She is only allowed to feed the pups two of their feeds per day and we do the rest. It has been stressed to us that she nearly died and that the problem can return should she try to fully feed these huge puppies. Only one puppy actually takes the bottle well and the others fight it. I bit the bullet today and got some fresh beef mince ( aka ground beef :) ) and tried offering it to the pups....well :P ...they nearly took my fingers off to the knuckle trying to get it in their mouths !! Each pup took at least 3 teaspoons full of meat and also some baby porridge done with puppy milk substitute. Later in the day they tried lapping puppy milk and got a lot more in their tummies that way than if we had tried the bottles. So, its all coming together. Poor Cricket keeps wanting to feed the pups and we are trying all kinds of diversions so she is away from them more and more. She came in the car with me on two leadlight jobs earlier today...which was cool as she got lots of fuss from various people.

Very few budgies left in the main aviary now as we shift the aviaries about....those budgies are just finishing up their nesting and babies. Laila has 2 of hers and 2 adopted ones she is feeding. Goliath and Jade have some well fed pretties......two yellow face greys :) one YF2 spangle and another one or two yet to be identified (lost count  ).

Last night Ken was pulling down the roller blinds we have on the aviary for draught stopping and he spied out of the corner of his eye a budgie clinging to the outside of the aviary mesh. So we have a youngish moulting budgie we are trying to find the owners of in lost and found too. :D
