Posted July 12, 200618 yr My first budgie, (thus still very naive) Atticus made it home yesterday and today while watching him I noticed that he is umm well eating is own droppings straight from his butt. He hasn't touched any of his food and I haven't noticed him take water. Does he have worms or something or is he just scared of his new surroundings? He is a hand raised 9 week old baby yellow latino... please help as a poohy beak just is not an attractive look for such a cute wee thing
July 12, 200618 yr It sounds like he is just cleaning in that area, if it's really messy give him a hand by cleaning with some water and cloth, if he will let you hold him. They can get stressed with the move and the dropping become runny which then yets caught around the vent area.
July 12, 200618 yr No fresh dropping today from 7am - 1pm, and the ones from yesterday were not runny. Vent looks clean - now at work so will watch him again tomorrow.
July 12, 200618 yr Did you ask Cindy if she noticed this at all? Most likely the move to your house made his poop runny, stress can do that. Make sure they go back to normal within 24 hours or I would be thinking vet trip.

Seems okay now He had a long car journey from here to his new home, approx 30 kilometres, also a new enviroment, and probably missing her siblings. But she will keep me informed Cindy
July 13, 200618 yr Atticus is looking more adjusted today, still a bit skittish but he is taking food and sleeps alot. I let him out for a little fly today and with some acrobatics managed to get him back into the cage . He has a good chirp on him - there are heaps of noisy birds in my area so I think that will have him confused for a while as he competes for noise quality . Also what colour cere should I be keeping an eye out for if I want a male? My reading has me believing that it is pretty hard to come by a male latino so perhaps I have an AttiKie and not an Atticus he/she is still so cute that it don't matter - the challenge is to get him/her to talk
July 13, 200618 yr Adult male lutinos/albinos have purple ceres. Adult female lutinos/albinos have the normal white/tan/brown ceres. Most males will be split for lutino because they carry 2 xx chromosomes that is why you will not see a visible males as often but they are there because it tends to be a hidden gene for them that is not expressed. A male lutino needs to be carry the gene on both genes.
