Babyfood?

I recently read on Budgietalk.com that he/she feeds the budgies baby food.

"Baby Food:

My budgies' all-time favorite food as of late is seed mixed with baby food. It is best to use an organic type of baby food and a variety high in vitamin A. (Sweet potato seems to be a favorite.) Mix a generous amount of baby food into about two teaspoons of seed but be mindful that the seeds should be easily visible among the baby food. This may be the only way your budgie/seed junkie will touch it. This is a great way to get healthy veggies into a budgie that will not yet touch whole/chopped veggies. I've made a regular part of my birds' diets simply because it's the only healthy food that they are so enthusiastic about! (Be sure to discard any uneaten portions within two hours of offering.)"

Has anyone tried this? I'm having trouble getting my girls to eat more fresh

food. I've tried spinach, oranges, apples, carrots (they use to eat them, but now its more fun to throw them or compete for them, so they are tossed on the ground) oranges, etc with little luck. They are definately becoming more brave however, as it's become somewhat of a game to see what I'll try putting in their dish. They will often try tasting it, and then it ends up on the floor. :fear Comments?

I haven't tried it mixed with seed but Blinkie LOVES baby food. It's pretty cheap so it's worth a try with your budgies. :fear

Bea,

Do you have 27 birdies right now? By The Way, that's a lovely looking betta you have. Is it a crowntail?

I raised a whole nest of baby birds (blown out of a tree in their nest) once on baby food. It was very successful.

I haven't tried it, but what a nice idea to add some variety! Sweet potato is supposed to be very good to feed your birds. I think I will try it myself.

I've heard it's good for baby budgie in a quick need of some food and as a treat, I keep meaning to try it but don't really think of 'baby' things, although Lily my niece will soon be getting into food like that :P

I tried it with my finches, they were not impressed at all. So today I tried the seed mix with real sweet potato mashed up, this was a little more successful. I will keep trying this for the rest of the week and see how it goes. I also got some fresh parsley today so I will mix that in with the spud tomorrow. I have just got a budgie so I will trying it on him too over the next couple of days.

Hey all! I just wanted to report to you that today I went out to buy some organic baby food. I decided to go with the sweet potato/yam and mixed it in well with my Harrison's pellets. (I decided to hold off their food for a good portion of the day so they would be hungry) It's worked and they are both eating it rather welll. It's quite encouraging because they aren't too impressed with new things (from toys to food) and now I am so happy because it gives them some "fresh" food to eat. I think I will maybe try and puree my own things, instead of buying baby food because it's not like I'm going to eat it. Let's just hope they continue with this and don't decide to make such things toss around items again. (as they have done with carrots) :(

Fresh mash sweet potato mixed with seed and finely chopped fresh parsley was a hit for my finches and budgie - they laped it up like there was no tomorrow - now they have meshy orange beaks which is amusing :ausb:

Anyone else having luck with this? I've also found the yams to be a good "masker." I've been able to mash up fresh squash and banana in with it, and they haven't noticed or don't seem to mind. I also get a kick out of the fact that my girls have finally made some peace. Instead of bickering over the food, they are taking turns at the food dish! :(
