okay well we were having the house painted so we put joey down to my gran and grandads as we useully do and he is normally fine.

gran phoned up yesterday that he is not speaking or whisling which is very unusual. we phoned the vet as he has his head turned arounf 180 degrees and on 1 foot in the corner of the cage. they said its becuase they left him in the house by himself for the first day he was there and he is destressed. so we bring him home set up the fan and windows so no fumes go near him and he is great.

now about 5 hours on he is back like this head at 180 degrees resting on back, one foot and "pooing" like really watery black poo. and not speaking.

im very worried and would like some advice.

sofar i have cleaned him out, washed him, gave him my 100% atention, changed food/water/all toys and containers incase they were dirty.

PLEASE HELP!

I would find an avian vet ASAP and take him up there, if the vet you have been speaking with is not an avian don't go there unless you have too. Get him in today, it sounds like he is sick.

Birds can tend to be quieter when they are in a different area but this doesn't sound just like stress.

Just my opinion, I am no vet, good luck.

okay i will take him first thing tomoro but also he has been like puling his feathers alot ond cleaning like non stop so maybe he has mites or something? my gran and grandad do have a dog.

is he really plucking or preening? There is a difference.

Plucking would be physically pulling out the feathers and having bald spots which in budgies is very rare and if they do it, it most likely an underlying illness.

Preening is the process of cleaning the feathers and some may come out especially if he is moulting, which means he may have pin feathers on his head and the biggers feathers like the tail can fall out.

he is cleaning them

that is normal, he probably is going through a molt and it is not mites and he is preening which they do alot.

also dogs can have fleas most likely not mites and I am sure the dogs didn't get close enough to transfer anything. I am sure you grandpa takes good care of his dogs so they don't have them

 Hope it all goes well and it was a smart move to remove him when the painting was going on. :)
