Posted July 10, 200618 yr Well, after everyone's visit I did a headcount in the aviary. To check on eggs and babies and nesting boxes. Should have done it while the girls were visiting as there were babies being born as we walked about in there. A few newborns and lots and lots of eggs. Today I moved Juliet into "jail" as she was trying to have more babies and it was too many clutches for her. She had already laid four eggs before I knew of it so those eggs got fostered under Kermit who has 3 of her own. Also, one of my recessive pied girls Paco, was trying to start having babies far too young so she also is in jail with her mother Juliet. Here's the list:- Sascha (yellow texas clearbody) and Stumpy (YF1 cinnamon) have 5 eggs Kaya (green cinnamon) and Sonny (yf2 spangle) have 4 newish babies and maybe 1 egg Curry and Laila have 7 eggs Slinky (violet spangle) and Bloo (sky spangle) have 5 eggs Ciara and her boy have 2 babies and 5 eggs (surprise to me) Pepper (mauve opaline) and spice (grey opaline) have 4 eggs Kiwi ( Type 2 dilute clearwing ? / spangle? ) and honey (GF type 2 dilute) have 1 egg Butter (creamino) and her dominant pied boy have 1 newborn and 3 ? eggs Spot ( pied) and precious ( violet opaline, spangle ? )have 6 eggs Izzy (green cinnamon opaline) and tiki (YF2 spangle) have 1 newborn and 3 ? eggs Prince (mauve spangle ) and princess (cobalt clearwing ) have 3 eggs Tart (GF type 2 grey ) and pickles (pied) have 3 eggs Kermit (green clearwing) and Froggie (green clearwing) have 3 eggs of theirs and 4 of Julie Greyson (Mauve greywing boy) and Jenni (sky opaline) have 8 eggs Arnie ( grey green cinnamon)and Molley ( sky opaline )have 2 eggs Lucifer(grey dilute) and Shiloh (texas clearbody white) have 4 eggs Lucy (lutino) and Jack (green clearwing ) have 7 eggs Casper and his new girl (no name) have 6 eggs Feather (YF2 opaline) and Zorro (grey green opaline) have 3 eggs Misty (Yellowface type 2 grey dilute) and her dominant pied boy Chucky have 3 babies Cindy (sky cinnamon) and Jet (mauve spangle dom pied) setting up home together Maybe its worth a plane trip over here soon guys to get your budgie babies. Last breedings for the year here unless we have some late starters as all these breeding pairs are in retirement after these batches......for quite some time. All these pairs chose each other so interesting results may eventuate. ..............oh....totals about 90 eggs and 11 new babies..... Edited July 11, 200618 yr by Bubbles
July 10, 200618 yr Oh MY! That's an amazing amount of budgies!!! I would LOVE to be closer, so I could take some.... Especially Crystal!! *sigh*.... :fear How do you come up with all their names....(especially Tart!...where did that come from!? :(Laughing out loud): ) Cheers, Tracey
July 10, 200618 yr Author Thank goodness not all eggs hatch....if it was 100% hatch rate I don't know what I would do. I keep the ones I like, and rehome others. Any of you guys if you lived closer would be given a budgie, as I could think of no better home than a forum member. I aim NOT to interbreed in any way so I have to rehome some to buy in new blood (something that takes my fancy).......even if the ones I rehome were ones I would have liked to keep. Tracey...the name TART came about cos she was a bird given to me and I was unsure of her age or if she could even be a mate to a male and have babies...she surprised me when one of the gorgeous pied boys thought she was a gods gift from heaven. He is her partner.........HOWEVER......recently I saw her on her perch outside of her nesting box being bonked by two other boys, with another couple lined up. She is TART by reputation. :fear ...........and there is nothing nicer than to stand in the aviary with budgies who have no fear of me flying past brushing their wings against my face, and babies I have handled from day one being comfortable in landing on me and stopping for awhile as i walk about the aviary. I have long since lost the ability to quickly come up with new names....Kirby names a lot for me and you guys on the forum help with the rest. Some of my budgies are named after forum members. Edited July 10, 200618 yr by Bubbles
July 10, 200618 yr Aaahhh....I see! Then 'Tart' is a perfect name then! :(Laughing out loud): I think naming all those budgies would be a bit of a brain strain....so thank goodness for help! I have trouble naming ONE budgie, let alone the MANY that you have! I don't know how Kirby can reel off all those names....I've noticed he's a great help when it comes to helping with naming...*phew*.... :fear
July 10, 200618 yr Author With over 150 budgies I only get stuck on about 4-5 names....I remember all the rest by name, relationship, colour, nature and history. I have started to put it all on paper in case my husband ever needs to know anything if I got sick or whatever. I feel very lucky that I have the space and time for my birds. I could easily have twice that many but would prefer not to. What I have with the comings and goings of babies is manageable. I love my birds and enjoy every minute I spend with them. :fear
July 10, 200618 yr Wow! Wish I could fly over and bring back some spangles :fear Can't wait for the updates.

Pie is in the other aviary with his dominant pied girl (no name)..........**correction...she has gone without a name long enough. I will call her "Shiver" cos she does that a bit. Yeah....I'm sorry about that. I was so distracted and thrilled with the visit, I can tell you. I was actually surprised at some of the newest babies....ones I wasn't expecting at all. As Lin says "there must be something in the water here " !! It was a good day and the weather behaved itself. All babies but Buddha and Bao flying around today and all babies eating well. All babies still like to be picked up and held....except Crystal now....she is getting to be a bit more independant Edited July 11, 200618 yr by Bubbles
