Droopy Tail

Featured Replies

Ever since Sunny had his wings clipped, I noticed his tail had a slight droop to it, it has gotten a little worse in the past few days with a noticeable bump at the top of it.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening???

Thanks

honestly I think it has to do with balance because the side wings help them balance too and it put it down for a more solid stance, it looks normal that is really how Pretty used to hold his and Merlin holds his down more then Pretty since he is younger and clipped.

Some of mine do this too. I noticed it most with Max who was clipped. Haven't noticed it as much lately with his flights growing back. I too was a little concerned but he didn't seemed bothered otherwise.

dont know about the wig clipped explanation as i dont clip any wings bot a bird like that in the show cage is said to have a hinged tail and it is a major fault

I see nothing wrong with how he's carrying his tail. What worries me is the bump. This needs to be checked out by an avian vet as soon as possible.

you got better eyes they I do, where is the bump?

I see many photos loaded up here of budgies that have been clipped and quite a few seem to adopt the same stance with that "rear projection". I think if you go back through members budgie photos you will find a lot more that look exactly the same.

Here are Bella and Max both with droopy tail after her clips. I don't notice it now that their flights are growing in.

It could be due to balance, but anytime mine have been like that it was because they did not feel well or were under stress. How long has it been since the clip? Was it an uneventful trim, or did your bird struggle? Did it take a few tries or was it quick? To me it looks like your bird is sitting way back on his feet so the dropped tail might be due to stress in this case. If he were sitting more forward and a bit higher like normal the body would be in a straighter line I think. As hath said, it is a fault in the shows, but if your bird normally always is in a straight line from the head to the tip of the tail having it become droopy may be a signal something is wrong. When my birds were clipped they did not have droopy tails. I don't notice a bump in your photo though, to me it looks like a normal angle where the tail drops. Can you post a better picture of the lump?

I think the 'bump' she was talking about was just what the start of the tail looks like at this angle, not that a lump is growing there. Riebie has enough budgie knowledge from here to take her sunny to a vet at any sign of a lump.

as always if it's truly worring you and the answers here arn't lessening it a check up to the vet is always worth peace of mind

Oh...see it looks normal to me that was Pretty's stance in the beginning for me so I didn't see a bump or a lump . I agree Riebe is very budgie smart, how is Sunny today?
