Posted July 9, 200619 yr Hi all The babies are now a few days over a month old, and the youngest Grace left the box yesterday. So all are out and hanging out on the perches. My problem is, they are still being feed by Dad, but mom is now interested in going into the box all the time. When she is out and the babies ask for food, she starts what looks to be like she is going to feed them, but then takes a foot, puts it on top of the babies and then what looks like attacks the baby. I have seen her & sylvester mate a few times, so i am sure she is ready for a second clutch (i dont want more) Can i remove the box today with the babies just leaving? Will her attitude be better with it gone? If her attitude doesnt change, what do i do??? do i remove her? the cage they are in has a divider, should i seperate her? do i leave dad with the babies so he can feed them? I have never had a problem with a hen doing this before (this is her first clutch) so I am totally in need of your advice!!! Thanks Anna
July 9, 200619 yr if you do not want anymore remove the hen and let dad finish it would be best to move her were he can not hear her so he is not distracted Edited July 9, 200619 yr by hath

July 10, 200619 yr Just to let you know Buz, perfectly normal hen behaviour - she wants a new clutch and has decided it's time the kids left home. For some reason hens do this before the chicks are fully weaned!
July 10, 200619 yr its weird, all my other hens have never done this! a first time for me. dad is doing well taking care of them!
