I just now got home with Tango. I'd like to thank Nathan for being very helpful and having such a nice looking bird. She's more yellow than I expected. Makes her prettier to me.

I've uploaded a few pics of Tango so Kirby can see she made it home just fine! She was good about the trip and only got a little scared when I took the cover off the cage. Going to go up and be with her for a while.....

Did you do what i suggested, and took her out for about an hour? I think it would kelp her tons! Awwww im so happy Lisa! Thanks again, and you are a true life saver to me and my flock! Without you, i would have had to have sold her to some random person in the Newspaper :D Thanks for the speedy pics and reply, and once again, enjoy 'my' lil gal, she even better when she trusts you...

Give her a peice of millet for me, and tell her daddy misses her already :D (Laughing out loud)

ps-i forgot to write on the sheet, but she oves the song 'Life is a Highway' my Tom Cockrane... so if you have it, shell calm down, and probably sing for you .... That is her fav song! Loves the beat, and his voice  (Laughing out loud)

She's doing well. I haven't taken her out of the cage yet. But I did stay near her for quite a while, and then stuck my hand in to see how she reacted. A bit flighty at first, but she settled down after she realized I wasn't leaving. Eventually I was 'petting' her chest and her toes. I didn't want to force the situation with her knowing it's all strange to her right now.

I cleaned everything in the cage. I know you did already for me  , but I do that for every new critter that I have. I guess it's just a quirk of mine. She has a new huge piece of millet (10" long) hanging in her cage that she's had some of already. It was the smallest piece in the box of millet we just got. Last I looked she was admiring herself in the mirror.

Oh, and thanks for the info on the paper you gave. Most people would not have done that. I appreciate it!

:bluebudgie: So happy that Tango has a wonderful and caring new home! :ausb:

ME too Pheobe! :D

Thats GREAT LISA!!! See what i mean? She flights like a wacko at first, but calms down within a few seconds, and is quite calm. She would sit on my finger yesterday, and LOVESSS millet... lil piggy! (Laughing out loud) yes, i got a new bag about a week ago thats gone already, and one like 9", i used it for taming her up for ya a bit, and she was done it within 2 days. Shw would start climbing on my hand if i pulled it away. (Laughing out loud), and yes the mirror. She doesnt like playing with it....until shes right beside it, and is bored. Then she just tilts her head, and stares at herself... (Laughing out loud) . Its adorable to watch isnt it? (Laughing out loud)! How does Ken like her so far, and young daughter whos name i forget at this moment in time? I bet they love her already dont they?... who wouldnt! :bluebudgie: NO ONE!!!! (Laughing out loud)

Oh no problem Lisa! Guys, i made her up a sheet in funky green font about info on Tango... such as birthday, parents colours in case they ever want to breed her once she matures and isnt so PMS'ing, (Laughing out loud), her favbourite foods, dilikes ((Laughing out loud) Grapes, dogs, and cats :ausb: ), what she likes doing, favourite toy e.t.c. I just thought it would help you guys get to kno wher better, than testing thisng out on her, and her FREAKing out. (Laughing out loud) The 1st time i put grapes in her cage, beleieve it or not, she had a spazm! She fluttered like a guy in prison for the 1st time! She hated that thing, and freaked out until i realised what she was scared of, and removed it... silly gal (Laughing out loud). So, no problem, and that stuff will help now, and in the long run if you decide to breed her or whatever.

ps-Since you guys are so great, ill give you guys a free baby budgie when my guys breed... If you want to drive down again that is (Laughing out loud). Tango woul LOVE a baby male budgie, and she doesnt like older males, she likes the young ones :) (Laughing out loud). So, ill have yellow faced blues, skyblues, yellow faced recessive pied blue, and possibly yellow recessive pieds within next few months. Its a shame you didnt see my other flock upstairs :( They are currently moulting, but once we move, and the birds are in condition, im setting up 2 pairs... that you can choose from... that way, it will give you and Tango time to bond for at least 3-5 months ;) So would you like a baby in future in return for being so nice? Its up to you, the invitation is open if/when you want it... ;)

Kirby

Glad she is settling in well. Just a couple things :bluebudgie:, Kirby will probably agree unless he has told you otherwise different about Tango.

To help her bond with you more just use the mirror as a treat don't keep it in there 24/7 some budgies tend to get bonded to their mirrors and not you and can become defensive. Pretty and Merlin don't have mirrors at all.

Also on petting, budgies don't usually like the chest area for petting but a good scratch on the back of the neck or under the neck because it reminds them of being preened, I have found are better areas of interesting.

Again good luck and congrats!!

(Laughing out loud) Lovey...

About the mirror... i gave it to her. Tango dones like to see the other bird, she just likes to shew the yellow frame... and occasioanlly looks at her reflections. (Laughing out loud). It up to Lisa, is she wants it in or not, but i dont see Tango being bonded to it... except to chew :bluebudgie: (Laughing out loud)!

Yes, im also surprised that she let you rub her Lisa! Thats great non the less! ;) She liked when i would rub on both sides of her head when she was little... but grew out of it FAST (Laughing out loud) :) . See, already shes warming up to you. She knows you wont hurt her, and shes scared in her new home, and has trust for you already. I bet within the next few days, she will be on your finger, singing like mad, and wanting to come out of her little domain. (Laughing out loud). Also, i would only suggest for you to use millet for trainging... I dont know if you took that 10" peice out, but it woiuld be best to use it as taming reward... :ausb: Best of luck ! ! !

Kirby

Awww Congrats to you Lisa and Kirby for such a great transition. Lisa I am sure you will enjoy your new little beauty and Kirby your mind must be at rest knowing that Tango has gone to a great loving home where you will be constantly updated with her progress. I am so happy for you both that this situation has turned into a positive one, it also goes to show how great a community a forum like this can be.

When Kathleen came home yesterday, she had to go and hurry up to see Tango of course. Tango fluttered a bit, then starting "chirping" at her. Kathleen is very excited about Tango. She's very good about trying not to startle her (as good as a 4 year old can be). She does not pester any of the pets, and generally listens when we tell her not to do something that scares them. :D

Kirby, I'll let you know about the baby budgie after. I do like the blues better. Ken REALLY wants a purple budgie. You know the ones I mean, not the violets that look blue, but the ones that look purple. I like those ones too. ;) I want to see how Tango fits in. So far so good though. :fear

It would have been nice to see your other budgies, but I didn't want to intrude since I figured you guys were waiting for us so you could go out yet.

I took the mirror out at lunch. She didn't seem to hang around it too much, but I figured it's better if she got used to us, not herself! I didn't know that about the chest on budgies, but she didn't back off or bite so I figured it was okay. I only 'pet' her a couple of times so I didn't annoy her. Next time, I'll try for the neck area.

Millet is a treat for most of our birds. They aren't trainable, so they just happen to get it when it's time for a treat, or they have babies. Got a couple of zebra babies, but their parents aren't the best feeders. Though, they will pick one or two out of their clutch to raise. Guess we see how that goes. Our best parental pair has laid some new eggs recently so in a week or so we should see babies.

glad she is doing so well

I use millet for training too, the only time the both of them get it is when they step up and it works great. Even when Pretty takes off Merlin sticks around :fear.

I remember reading when learning about budgies is that they will tolerate the rubbing on the chest even when they are scared. Just because they take it doesn't mean they like it but Tango can be an expection ;).

The violets are gorgeous some deeper then others I love blues myself, Merlin is a violet and has a tinge of the purple to him in person, I have seen some diluted violets here in the pictures they are gorgeous.

(Laughing out loud) Lisa.... YAY Thats great about Kathleen! :D :D :D See what i mean? Tango will brighten up right out of the blue sometimes, and start singing, or preen your arm hairs,or play with finger nails! Shes a very outgoing, curious lil gal which is why taming her will be WOINDERFULY easy, as she will thrive on yourm attention, and get attracted to you for the fact of being chewble :fear (Laughing out loud)! Oh well, shes a sweetie, and yes Reibie, i rest easy at night now. Before i PM'd Lisa out of the blue, (she wasnt even asking for a budgie, i just PM'd her and told her my situation and was kind enough to accept it :D ) i was SOOOOOO worried, scared, nervou and tense about how i was going to sell her . I thought of holding interveiws, and picking best person, which i probably was going to... if Lisa didnt agree (Laughing out loud). So, im sooo thankful for Lisa taking her, im so delighted for Tango, and im very relaxed as i know their family will do nothing more than spoil my old birdy.

Lisa- Have you done extra taming with her since last time? Shell bond with you very fast, if you talk and feed her millet about 5-8 times a day, for 5-10 minutes each time ;) Thats what i did, and from being a crazy goof, she calmed down right away, and would play with my hang ( as in chewing of course ;) (Laughing out loud)) . . . Bye for now!

Kirby :D

No extra taming time with her yet. Just the odd times when I'm around her. I'll talk to her and put my hand in the cage. Still very flighty, but she's slowly getting used to that. I can't do the 5-8 a day thing. I work during the day you know... ;-). I am working on it though.

NO! YOU MUST DO IT! :D (Laughing out loud), just kidding! (Laughing out loud) ;)

The good non the less... getting calmer :fear And may i ask, whats the ACA? Is it about fish or budgies? (Laughing out loud)... im thinking American Cichlid Association? And also, how far away do you think Exeter (In North Eastern London) is away from my house? I contacted a FABULOUS blue spangle breeder there :P Thanks again! And thanks again for taking Tango, and keeping me posted, thats so kind of you to do that  Tell her i said hello, and her boyfreind Oscar is going nuts calling for her :( Which is why im on a manhunt to find him a new girlfreind, even though he was mating with the rope toy 5 minutes ago :fear (Laughing out loud). Byes!

Kirby :)

ACA is the American Cichlid Association. They have an annual convention in different cities every year. This year is near Chicago. So you're right!

Let's see, for us to get to your house was about 3 1/2 hrs. It's around an hour to London for us, so I'd say approximately 2 1/2 hrs for you to get to Exeter. Can you send me a pm with the blue spangle breeders name? We might get a blue spangle at some point to hang around with Tango. :fear

Sorry to hear Oscar is missing his friend, but at least he has the rope! :fear
