Hi everyone, just a question on where to buy (probably on the internet) milk thistle for my budgie Percy who has a chronic liver ailment. I have heard that other people give it to their budgies for this problem but I'm not sure where to get it or in fact, how to give and what dosage. Would really appreciate any advice on this. .. thank you so much.

I've gotten it before, but it was prescribed and given to me by my vet. Have you checked with him/her yet? It is an oral medication (fun-fun-fun) and needs to be kept refrigerated. I don't remember whether it was once or twice daily dosing. If your vet can't or won't get it for you, ask if s/he knows of a veterinary pharmacy you can buy directly from. I don't know for certain, but in order to get the correct dosage for your bird I think you would be better off getting it by prescription.

Hi Rainbow, your reply is very much appreciated thank you. I asked my vet and he said to get it from the heath food store and give the milk thistle in birds water. Now I don't know much about this product, but I really didn't think that was the case so not happy about that. He doesn't prescribe it or get it apparently!! I'm really hacked off about it but he's the only avian vet in my area, well 15 miles away... so I'm winging it now as with him having cut Percy's beak too short and traumatising him, I will only go back to him for routine things. I will have to keep looking for the milk thistle, but it's the dosage.... and how to give. So thanks for your help, I will keep trying tho.
