Box Problem......

Featured Replies

Hi

My Budgies recently had babies. I just seperated them from the mother because they are old enough however, a day or so later the mother laid another egg before i had time to clean it out. My question is would i be able to remove the egg so i could wash out the box and would the mother still care for it and go in the box?

Thanks, Jen

Budgies will keep laying clutch after clutch until they are seriously ill. Take the box away and give her a break for a while

I know this and i was going to take it away but she beat me to the punch . And that still didnt solve my problem. :)

Hard as it is, you need to just toss the egg. And any others she might lay. It is a very hard thing to do, but sometimes the right thing is hard.

To answer your question, I think it is unlikely she will sit on that egg if you take the box out to clean. She will probably toss it herself.

if this is the second clutch they should be fine to rear if more than second in a year they will need to be destroyed as to cleaning the box now i personaly would leave them nobody cleans them in the wild and clean when chicks about seven days

Thankyou and yes this is only her second clutch.

If she continues to lay after you have thrown the eggs it might be a good idea to shake the eggs really hard so there is no chance of them hatching, then put them back under her so she wont lay anymore. After a while when they don't hatch she will get sick of them.

If you have another pair breeding and they are just starting to lay eggs you can foster the eggs to them.
